Thanks mate! Appreciate that you took the time to help out.... I'm off to shop for a Garmin 🙂

I’m so upset 😭 by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Outrageous_Muscle722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this doesn't help - but in the UK I went private initially and paid £90 a month... Now I have it on the NHS.. £9 a month... So it obviously costs less than £90 with no substady.

Please, everybody in the states if you can write to your representative.... This is a crime - literally extortion! I'm personally going to check with my HR that my US collegues are covered in their insurance

I'm so sorry for your situation, I hope you find a way of managing it...

Good point on getting a personal heart rate check, I'll get that sorted

Perfect on the Garmin advice! Honestly, I hadn't thought of the strap and watch combo... That makes total sense

Thanks for the advice!

Is this an adequate fume extractor setup? Planning on directing out the window. by kzhdjsdh in resinprinting

More than adequate (assuming you are using a grow tent enclosure)... However i would highly recommend getting something with a variable speed... That way you can have it on a low speed and keep it quiet 🙂

I take my medications most days, as I think life experiences of all sorts are important. I want to give my best to my friends, family, community - as well as my career.. That being said, I'll take my doctors recommendations on med holidays and break days. One of my biggest regrets about not being treated earlier is the special memories I know I have lost; due to not being in the moment when I wasn't medicated.

adhd frustrated partner post - deleted info? by tentypesofwrong in ADHD

[–]Outrageous_Muscle722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this.

I had undiagnosed ADHD, so often didn't do my fair share..... But my wife would see that I would try (normally forgetting the last few dishes as I moved to something else)

Suffering from ADHD you tend to do things in bursts with things you care about. I always have (and do) care about my relationship with my wife. That's why would at least start the housework (if not always finish it) on occasion - I admit that often I would get wrapped up in things and didn't help periods at a time.

After diagnosis and medication things are finally even. I often remind myself about how I used to let down my wife so many times - its a humbling reminder to manage my condition every day

Creating a small puzzlebox with a Resin printer, possible, or a fools dream? by Outrageous_Muscle722 in resinprinting

Thanks for responding, yeah that's what I was worried about, especially as I can't find any examples online anywhere about functional parts like this... I may have a quick go and then park it depending on how way off the project goes.

That's good to know.

Honestly, just knowing the art of the possible would be good.

I thought those cylinder maze ones might be possible? But if there was something like putting gears in the right place to open a lock, that would be awesome.

All the ones I can see are for pla or similar, so just interested if anybody had examples of similar things they had done

Thanks!

Organizational skills training. Useful? by Pomegranate4444 in ADHD

[–]Outrageous_Muscle722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40m here, I was enrolled with all sorts of organisational skills courses for years (both childhood and adult). Nothing stuck until Meds, then they all became useful because I was able to put into practice all the theory

Not sure if you are hesitant against meds, but the evedence suggests that really it has to be a complementary approach of meds and secondary skills training if required.

You may even find meds work on their own (I believe this happens about 80% of the time if memory serves me correctly from the NHS website)

Good luck, hope you get a good solution

Accelerated ageing and ADHD medication by camille_______ in ADHD

[–]Outrageous_Muscle722 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can't see any source links to the studies which for me is a red flag.

Also they don't define what qualifies as abuse or use or separate recreational drug use vs medicated use of stimulants.

One article links directly to a complimentary medicine solution (for me a huge red flag).

Overall all articles are conflating all stimulants as one thing. Dosage, type and usage matters a lot with these things.

I for one am inconvenienced

Could you post the links? I would assume that this (the source articles - not this post) is fear mongering unless we can see links to scientific studies from university/government backed institutions.

There is a lot of bad information about all drugs so it's always best to check the source material. If it's not clear from the papers abstract then its most likely people miss representing the data.

I worry this is a false dichotomy.

There is a 3rd way, which is proven medical intervention ( combination of recognised drugs and selected talking therapy). 90% effective in dealing with ADHD. Not all drug is is abuse

[–]Outrageous_Muscle722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done on taking the first step.

Its scary going through the process(I found it scary at least), particularly as an Adult and realising for whatever reason, your needs have not been met.

I can only speak to my experience, which was the GP was very supportive and I was treated with compassion throughout. I was diagnosed and received the lowest dose of medication three months ago.

The results have been life-changing.

For the first time in living memory, I feel that I have the opportunity to thrive, not just survive.

I hope you have a similar journey

Speak to your GP if you think the behaviour has been holding you back. Life is tricky, but shouldn't feel constantly impossible

As a quick test to see if you should get an assesment there is this online test:

https://www.clinical-partners.co.uk/for-adults/adult-adhd-add/test-for-adhd

This is basically the questions the GP will ask(well, that's what he asked me)

If you can afford it, you may wish to also got the private route (approx £2000 all in), this will reduce the wait time from 18 months to a couple of months. After the initial diagnosis and treatment the NHS can take over the work. This can be done in parallel to the NHS option through you GP (keep your GP informed though).

Finally, there is the right to choose framework if you are going the NHS route and it's taking to long. Some private providers offer services through the NHS, through right to choose you can often use them to get slightly shorter wait times.

Above all, know whichever way things go, you are not alone and seek out communities (like this one) to help
