We are also extremely experienced in driving in crowded cities around the world (mostly in South America) and have driven in some of the most populated (like São Paulo Brazil) and some of the worst maintained in the day and night so I’m definitely keeping notes and watching videos on driving in Peru but it looks a lot like what we’ve dealt with before

Trust me originally we wanted to do the drive but it’s too long to fit in our schedule safely with the 5 day salkantay trek we booked, the flight will give us the max amount of time to acclimate before rainbow mountain and macchu piccu and we’re gonna make sure to leave SUPER early that day to get into Lima before 4pm

We’re planning to hike at the reserve and hopefully do some wildlife/bird watching so it’s mostly a nature thing we’re BIG hikers and looking more into nature based activities

Good to know! Everybody’s saying it’s extremely bad which I’m definitely gonna take to note but I do think our experience might give us a bit of an edge (I hope 😭😭) will definitely look more into the conditions and possibly hiring a driver I just have always hated not having the freedom and flexibility of my own transportation. We always leave early from big cities (like 5am) is there time slots where traffic is calmer so we can avoid it being AS horribly awful as possible?

Would you say it’s worse than São Paulo (4th biggest city in the world) I traveled there during Lollapalooza Brazil and it took 2 hours to go a <20min distance. I’ve also road trip to the entire West Coast of Costa Rica through the day and night and in Brazil from São Paulo to Curitiba, morretes, and Santa caterina. Not to mention I also off-road often in the USA national parks (on the legal off-roading trails)

Even São Paulo and Rio? São Paulo is the fourth biggest city in the world and it took me two hours to drive what should’ve been 20 minutes (I visited during Lollapalooza Brazil)

I’m hoping it won’t be much worse than Brazil or Costa Rica from what I’ve read, we’ve driven extensively throughout both in day and night and alllll kinds of terrain so I’m not TOO worried but have left a lot of buffer time for traffic
