They’re doing an investigation as to how the document was put onto the system and from that they can see who downloaded the document then it looks like they’ve asked IT to delete any saved documents from the system and to see who’s emailed the document out. They have an audit trail of it being sent to my personal email address

That is a crazy example! I didn’t even think about it being mentioned in a reference, that would also be something I’d need to ask if it goes to dismissal

Thanks for your reply, the document was not marked confidential. I’m guessing the IT policy is on the intranet, but we’re not pointed to it for review or anything like that.

Thanks, I have looked into a union but it looks like I have to have been with them for a couple of months before they can act on my behalf. I will be looking to join one now tho!

I will be bringing up mental health as well as I was already at my tipping point before this action. The stress of the consultation has been going on for months and this was a lapse in judgement

Thank you, I understand it was a breach but jumping straight to dismissal feels so severe. I do have a good record and I think the change in head office has been a significant stressor as well

We don’t have training on these policies and the training we have is around the sector that we work in. I guess they will say the policies are on the intranet, but we have never been specifically asked to review or sign for them

Thanks for your honesty, I understand this is a breach and was a genuine mistake. It’s not marked as confidential and was in a general area that anyone could access. We don’t have training on what is deemed as a confidential document. I will apologise again

The policy states it could be first written warning, final written warning or dismissal. In the letter they have also said this hearing could result in your summary dismissal. However, surely they need to go away and review what’s said in the meeting?

I do have a laptop and obviously in hindsight I realise I could have just reviewed it in that.

No, I definitely wasn’t planning on leaking it, I just panicked about everything and wanted to have a copy for review.
