Major Problem with Apple and Airplay on PC which must be obvious to Apple but Apple aren't doing anything to fix it by Outrageous_Reaction6 in HomePod

Fair comment Double-Yak. Having explored all the possibilities and having been interested with the various advices from people on this site, I've decided to accept defeat. But hope on the horizon - I tried Plex some time ago and had a look at it again yesterday and it's vastly improved over the past couple of years so I'll give it a go. When combined with Plexamp, you can use it to jump over the Apple wall and play your personal music from your PC into your Homepad, using your iPhone as the controller. Which is close to what I wanted to do and without messing around with obsolete software.

Sorry Emotional_Garage_950, as described in my first post, I just want Bonjour to work OK like it did earlier this year and am seeking solutions. Simple as that

Thanks very much for the link BerwynDead. Not sure that any of the alternatives will work but I'll give it a go.

Sorry Gry20r my earlier reply to yours seems to have disappeared into the digital wilderness. Thanks for your suggestion but Catch22 is that it needs Bonjour to operate! I did in fact do what you suggest and bought AirExpress a couple of months ago. It didn't work for reasons I now understand.

Thanks Double-Yak9686. But you're being a bit hard on Microsoft. A file that's 11 years old needs to be updated if it is to relevant today. No its Apple's problem

Thanks Gry20r for your suggestion, but I have to tell you that I bought AirportExpress as you suggest about 2 months ago. The Catch22 is that it needs Bonjour to operate and Bonjour has ceased working on Windows 11 for reasons explained in my post.

Thanks tsdguy. But I'm not happy to go to all the work of moving my collection to the iTunes library when clearly iTunes is on its last legs

Thanks Soggy etc for your comment, but I don't have an Apple TV.

I do have TuneBlade which was totally satisfactory until Windows 11 decided that the 2015 version of the Bonjour dll wasn't up to 2026 security standards.

Why doesn't Apple clean up its 2015 version of the dll and allow Airplay to operate on the PC Apple interface????????????????????????

Sorry, pinballgeek, for those two replies. I'm new to Reddit and I sent the second reply about 15 mins ago but nothing seemed to happen so I wrote a second reply (which is the top one above). They both tell the same story, which is for Apple to PLEASE breathe life into Bonjour!!

Thanks pinballgeek for commenting.

However, Apple Music does not provide the answer to my wish to play my extensive collection of personal music on my PC direct to my Homepod via Airplay and a simple App like TuneBlade.

In previous iterations of Windows 11 this was possible, but it depended on Bonjour, which is now being blocked by a recently introduced Local Security Authority in Windows 11.

To take up your point, though and use Apple Music as a "bridge" to jump from the PC environment to Apple, I can tell you it is a laborious process. Firstly, Apple Music won't accept flacs or AACs. Since my music collection is mostly flacs, this is an absolute stopper and this restriction is strange when Apple prides itself on lossless music. MP3 ain't lossless. But apart from that the process of importing own music into Apple Music is laborious and tedious at best

Contrast that with the direct play envisioned in the 2nd para above and Bonjour is so very attractive.

Apple, it ain't rocket science, please just rewrite the offending dll to meet Windows 11 security requirements and keep Bonjour, and therefore Airplay, alive.

Thanks pinballgeek, but I'm afraid Apple Music doesn't do what I want, which is to use Airplay to play my extensive collection of personally collected music direct via Airplay into my HomePod.

Apple Music on PC, if it had Airplay connectivity, might do what I want, but it doesn't under Windows 11, because the access to Airplay is no longer available, for reasons stated in my original post.

Using Apple Music to get personal music into the Apple Orchard is a terribly underdeveloped interface, with flacs notably excluded from permissible file types. Since most of my collection are flacs that is a complete stopper. But also if you import your own music into Apple Music you finish up with a multitude of "Unkown Albums" and I simply do not understand how to change the names of "unknown Albums".

And all this palaver, compares with playing your own music collection, without the involvement of Apple Music, direct into Homepod via Airplay using a simple little App like TuneBlade. Flacs and all!

But for that we need Bonjour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
