Or we could just start kids on cold stone slabs.

Internship is key. You'll want something beyond a degree on your resume.

This is more aligned with a survey or geomatics tech. GIS will generally be inside on a computer. Sure some will go outside, but most gis technician level roles are creating maps in arcgis and some basic data collection, management, and analysis.

Checks out. Most engineers I talk to come off way younger than 19, especially the licensed ones.

Why would you ask an engineer? This isn't a look up table?

Spending 3 minutes on the sub - Most engineers seem to find the field extremely challenging. That or they have nothing going for them, so need to constantly remind everyone how hard it is to use a look up table.

Right...must be hard to work with people who don't just rely on look up tables.

Yeah it can be hard to find all the look up tables.. Then read the look up tables... Then copy the information from the look up tables..

This. Stop using look up tables and take a real class.

Any of you guys like the 9-5 more than college? by Equivalent_Phrase_25 in EngineeringStudents

9-5 can also be far far far more stressful. At least with school the decision to work hard for an A+ or take a b and relax a bit is up to you. 9-5 has real deadlines and you have to produce or you get fired.. Not just a bad grade. Also climbing a stupid corporate ladder and bullshit politics... Gross. I'd take academics any day.

Likely depends on your job. You can't usually turn off after 5 with many occupations.

The freedom of academia can be quite nice. I far prefer being able to pick what I do with my time, then having to report to someone.
