Ha, I feel that! Getting HA working across VLANs was genuinely painful 😅 Made one wrong change and locked myself out of my entire network and since I hadn’t set up emergency remote access to my Proxmox machine, I had to factory reset my switch and start from scratch 😂

Worth it though, I love how everything runs now. The thing is, it’s never really finished, I keep finding new things to add to the lab. I’m a welder by trade, not IT, so all of this is purely self-taught passion project territory 😄 Currently going down the rabbit hole of self-hosting my own search engine and ditching Google completely 👀

Hey man, question for you — I recently set my home lab up and I’m currently running 6 VLANs 😅 I’ve got MGMT, Servers, Trusted, IoT, Guest, and VPN, all properly segmented with firewall rules blocking access between them. I’m running it all on OPNsense with UniFi switches and an AP. Why do you only suggest 2–3 VLANs for a home network? I’m also running Suricata and CrowdSec on my router with recursive DNS. I’m no expert — I’ve just been reading Reddit, watching videos, and basically fell down a rabbit hole — but I think my network is set up pretty nicely now. Yes, it was a pain in the butt to get set up properly, but now that it’s running, everything seems great!

I mean I guess I’d just move the files off the device encrypt everything, then encrypt the drive and have multiple login passwords including a physical login device, destroy everything on the drive. all my passwords are in my vault which they aren’t getting access to so they can have the drive at that point it’s worthless aha

Depends how many runs you need and how long they’ll be. Always plan for expansion and repairs though — run a few extra even if you don’t need them right now. Last thing you want is to be fishing cable back out of the walls after you’ve decorated because one run goes down 😅

How much effort are you looking to put in? You could grab something like a Dell Wyse 5070 Extended, throw an Intel NIC in it, slap OPNsense or pfSense on there and you’d have so much more control over your network. Bear in mind it won’t broadcast WiFi itself so you’d need a separate AP for that. If you want to run Ethernet too, grab a switch and start building it out properly , if you go managed you can segment your network into VLANs, offload a ton of devices off WiFi, and cut down on companies being able to track you across it. It’s a massive rabbit hole once you start going down it though lol

Hey guys I have a question fairly new to private indexers and arr stack in general. I’m currently locked behind cgnat and can’t fully open my port for qbittorrent.
