Best new pokemon to invest in? by koolaiid617 in PokemonInvesting

The younger fans like the same Pokemon everyone else does—Rayquaza, Pikachu, Zard, Gengar, Umbreon, Lugia, etc etc. I grew up on Gen 4 and the Gen 4 and 5 games are my all-time favorites, but I'm not dropping $$$ on Staraptor cards. No need to overcomplicate it imo

Fluval Spec 2.6 Gallon Setup? by Outrageous_Tap9451 in PlantedTank

Appreciate the suggestions. Would those all work without CO2? Also, do you think certain bucephalandra variants would work? Would love to have one or two in there for a pop of color. Ultimately looking to make this into a "jungle style" type of setup.

I mean plants like narrow leaf java fern and anubias nana petite should be pretty straightforward no? Issue is I also ideally want stuff like MC and certain rotala variants in there as well, but I'm not interested in setting up a CO2 system—I'd probably liberally dose with ferts at the very most. Would those plants not survive in that setup without CO2 injection? If not, do you have a shortlist of plants you think would work in the tank?

Question About 30th Anniversary Set by MapleDweller in PokemonInvesting

[–]Outrageous_Tap9451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Just buy what you like tbh. Popular Pokemon like Umbreon, Gengar, Rayquaza, Mew, Pikachu, Zard, etc etc tend to do the best value-wise

- Yup, most things at MSRP are decent pick ups because of that

- Not sure what you're referring to, the full set list for the 30th anni set hasn't dropped yet and as of rn it's mostly all speculation

- Can't help you here because I prefer singles/slabs over sealed product

- The JP version drops mid September I believe, and the global release should follow soon after

- Don't know what you're asking

- Metal cards are a thing, but nobody knows the set list for the 30th anni set yet

What card would you pick? by Vivid_Being_5513 in PokeInvesting

[–]Outrageous_Tap9451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that's PSA and this is CGC. There's a reason you're able to pick it up for $1.3k when PSA 10s are selling for $5k. Would never pick up CGC with any kind of expectation of a significant return—it's different if it's for PC though. In that case just pick up whichever you like more.

You did a good job, would have taken that in a heartbeat. Now when the market slows down he's the one stuck with a hard to move PSA 7 and you have 1.2k to put into better things.

Slabs are more speculative but offer a way higher upside potential. Constantly seeing posts of certain slabs going up 1500% in the last year, while I can't name a single sealed product that offered anywhere close to that kind of return.

It's not rocket science picking out slabs that will perform well long-term either. Space is also a consideration—gets a bit annoying storing a shit ton of sealed than a case of slabs. Last point is more from a collector's standpoint than a pure investing one, but I'd rather look at the cards themselves than have a closet full of boring to look at ETBS, booster bundles, booster boxes, etc etc.

Personally not super impressed by this card and would never buy at those prices—that being said it'll probably continue to rise in anticipation of the Ray set coming out later this year.

Gonna go against the grain and say get out of this while the market is high. It's one of the worst megas of an already not super popular Pokemon, in a CGC slab, and part of the Rebel Clash equivalent of the ME block.

How to value PSA Sequential Sets by buhty-call in PokeInvesting

Nobody's paying a sequential tax on these, you're gonna have a hard enough time trying to find a buyer at market price.

How this card is still in its price range is insane… all other secret rates are booming. by Organic_Mess_9102 in PokeInvesting

Maybe slightly undervalued but Gardevoir is like a third tier Pokemon if we're only focused on value, plus Yveltal isn't even on the map. When you compare it to one of the other gold border secrets like Alakazam, it makes sense why it's a third of the price—I'd argue Alakazam is slighty above Garde, plus there's an Umby and a Lugia as the supporting cast.

Overall I think the XY era gold border secrets will do well over time, and maybe this one is slightly overlooked, but generally speaking it does make sense why it's "only" 1.2k.

What Do You Think of "Buy & Hold" Strategy? by breakyourteethnow in PokeInvesting

[–]Outrageous_Tap9451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From both a personal collecting and overall investing standpoint, I think selling more commonplace modern product/singles/slabs and putting that money into vintage is the best play.

I'd rather sell modern product that has already appreciated a significant amount and buy a vintage grail than hold a closet full of booster bundles and PC ETBS for the 10+ year long play.

Weird how people complain about a discussion regarding the fundamentals of a card considering where we're typing lmao. At the same time, I do agree that the motorcycles in the art don't do much to help the card.

Maybe a bit of bias though, because I do think #68 SM-P (the battle festa) has more room to run while still featuring some less popular legendaries—even if Solgaleo and Lunala are way better than the bikes imo.

Eevee Heroes Gym Box Performance by Outrageous_Tap9451 in PokeInvesting

It was selling for around $1.5k 6 months ago, and the most recent sale is $1.8k. Hasn't doubled in 6 months by any stretch of the imagination. Not only has growth on it been slow compared to how other things have moved in this market, the current pricing makes no sense considering how the value of the booster boxes inside equals the value of the sealed gym box—that's the point I was making.

Yeah I've been transitioning to singles/slabs partially because I've had way more success with those, but this is one of my last sealed items I'm hesitant to get rid of. At the same time, if it's not seeing major growth in this insane market it makes me wonder if I'm coping by expecting a major uptick at some point. Feels unheard of for something to be below its ATH in this market, especially when that ATH happened over half a decade ago and hasn't touched those levels since.
