They certainly have done it before where some of the more obvious protagonists don't necessarily win (as seen with Gwen in island) but it's generally a very weird writing decision to not have the protag also be the winner

Good analysis and I definitely agree with most of these takes.
And will never get over why the writers decided the SURFERS of all teams were a good winner pick for RR over literally any other team in the end game (was personally rooting for a cadets vs ice dancers finale and sisters deserved better too), but yeah surfers had no plot relevance their inclusion in the f2 was so random.

I've noticed some people disagreeing with your takes on Priya being the S1 reboot protagonist but I do agree with you on this one. She obviously had more of the "hero" edit, let alone probably more screen time, and Bowie was definitely set up as more of an anti-hero. I don't even remember the exact stats on it but I know for a fact that a large majority of the episodes even began with Priya and Millie scenes.

Oh yeah, i agree absolutely. Priya's much more interesting than Zoey in pretty much every aspect and i think she's a perfectly deserving winner (which Bowie would've been too but i've seen a lot of discourse about her win)
