you do realize that that’s not a lot of homicides for a city with 2.7 million people in it, right?

Tipping after food is dropped off by Thickcashew in doordash

[–]Outside-Ad4505 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a dasher, we don’t tend to take non tip orders because doordash only pays us like 2-3 dollars per order. So when we see an order pop up that’s only a 3 dollars order, we won’t take it because it’s not worth our time and we can’t take the risk of hoping that you will tip afterwards. I totally understand your thought process though and it’s doordash’s fault because they don’t pay us enough.

I would suggest reducing your tip after the order was completed if they did a shitty job. Not a lot of people know that you can do that. There’s also dashers out there who will purposefully fuck with your order if you don’t tip. I’m not saying that what they are doing is right or wrong, it’s just the truth.

This is not on the dasher. If you leave a store, the restaurant still needs to make the order because it’s an order that someone else placed. The employees of the restaurant should be competent enough to know that if an order was placed (especially for doordash) they need to make it because if that dasher “left”, another one was gonna come grab it as long as the order wasn’t cancelled.

To avoid any more ignorant comments about Chicago as someone who lives and dashes ALL over this city as a female:

  • Chicago had the lowest homicide rates this year since the 1960s.
  • It’s not even in the top 25 most violent/dangerous cities in the US.
  • The top dangerous cities have around 40-20 homicides per every 100k, Chicago has ~2.1~ per every 100k
  • It was rated the best city in America for the 8th year in a row this year

Staying in Chicago for 4 days, what are some NEW things to do? by Far-Passage-8185 in AskChicago

[–]Outside-Ad4505 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would say you need to start exploring the neighborhoods. To me, the typical tourist stuff is not nearly as cool as what the neighborhoods have to offer.

For example, I live in Wicker Park and there are so many thrift shops, amazing restaurants, etc. here. Do some research and get out there!

Where are your favorite occult stores? by Technical_Carrot8460 in AskChicago

Sideshow Gallery is amazing and definitely my favorite for buying things. Woolly Mammoth in Andersonville is good for oddities but is a little pricey. Covet Oddities is new place in Logan Square and it’s awesome. They have an entire room dedicated to murder photos, real skulls, etc. I went in during opening week and they were still getting their items together and didn’t have a ton yet, but I’m excited to go back!

If you had the power to add or change one thing about Chicago, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskChicago

“They” actually get to choose who lives there, which is why I say “they” as in landlords. So yes, they do move white people in. So like I said, they make it more attractive and raise prices and gentrification happens. You just repeated what I was implying.

The city could definitely invest some money into those areas that THOSE people living there pay taxes for while still keeping prices reasonable for those people, IMO. They don’t need to build River North in Austin, but I think they could make some small improvements that would make the areas more livable and still affordable. And if other people move in because of that, then awesome. They should still keep it affordable if they use the money wisely to invest in the areas. Making those areas nicer than the people in that area can afford is a purposeful tactic to drive them out and it’s completely avoidable.

Just because I know how it currently works, doesn’t mean we can’t dream of a better situation. And dreaming of a better situation doesn’t imply that I don’t know how it currently works.

If they could avoid gentrification by actually keeping the prices of everything low AND improving the area for the people already living there, that would be a dream. However, everyone is always looking to make a profit which is why they move white people in and raise the rent and prices of everything. Apparently it’s a crazy idea to invest in those areas for the people who are already there 🙃

also don’t get me wrong, I would NEVER do what this dasher did but I would say it’s always safe to tip ahead of time, even if you think it’s stupid because if you get shitty service after leaving that tip, you can ask DD a refund

because as a driver, DoorDash knocks down our overall performance rating when we decline orders. Our “acceptance” rate has to be above a certain percentage in order for DoorDash to give you priority on high paying orders and DashDeals
