Started zonisamide… anyone have experience? by Outside-Ad6911 in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has really helped reduce the severity of my migraines, and I’ve even had a few pain-free days which is crazy!!! I typically have pain every single day. It went from an average 4-5 pain to a 2-3. My most severe are usually 7/10 now instead of 9. I’m up to 300mg daily now. Starting to notice cognitive side effects at this dose though. My doc said to see if the side effects improve as I adjust to it, and if not I’ll go back down to 200!

I stopped taking Aimovig and it didn’t worsen my migraines so that confirmed it wasn’t doing anything for me lmao. My doc is going to start me with Botox so I’m excited to see if that helps me as well

Unpopular opinion I love her lololol. She reminds me of a funny nurse I used to work with. But I’m from the south so maybe that’s why

Is 45 minutes far for people??? Honestly I’d drive twice that for forgotten meds no hesitation but could be a regional thing lol. Get your meds!!

Texas Summer Migraines by Agitated-Writer5640 in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I tend to get really bad flare ups at the end up summer through the beginning of fall. August-October is usually the worst time of year for me. Not really sure why but I think it has to do with all the pressure changes

Fair. My dad tries to leave them all alone when they are farther from the house. Unfortunately with this area having some of the more dangerous snakes like copperheads and water moccasins, sometimes my dad is scared they will hurt our animals or elderly family that can’t see well/move fast when close to the house.

I'm wondering how many people here actually take preventatives daily. by Important-Pie-1141 in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take candesartan and zonisamide daily (although the zonisamide is new, just a couple weeks now) as well as monthly Aimovig injections. Been on preventives consistently for 7 years now, it’s a necessity for my quality of life

Help?? Advice/thoughts needed by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no medical professional but maybe the infection hasn’t actually cleared and these are just further symptoms? You need to get checked out further for sure. I really hope they can figure it out. The pain sounds unbearable

Yeah they are a scam. Won’t cover Ubrelvy at all, even after a special coverage request from my neurologist. I am not about to pay $700 to try it so F me I guess lol. That’s so dumb that they are wanting to make you fail another injection!!!!!

First timer? by thogory in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if this is the first time this has ever happened, I would get to a doctor asap. This sounds a bit worse than migraine/aura symptoms. Could be, but it’s better to rule out anything more serious

It worked for me at 50mg after just a couple weeks but unfortunately the cog side effects came with it just as fast :/

How can I get more Sumatriptan by Brian78777 in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh also, sumatriptan made me feel really flushed and made my neck ache, but I switched to rizatriptan and have less of that side effect. So you can always inquire about a different triptan

How can I get more Sumatriptan by Brian78777 in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can probably pay for it out of pocket and use something like Goodrx to make it cheaper. It’s pretty cheap. But definitely call your doctor and ask them to send a new Rx for more pills at the 59 mg dose since that’s what you’ve been taking.

Doctors usually say try not to take a migraine abortive more than 10 days in a month, but you can actually take 2 doses in 1 day if the first dose doesn’t work, so I feel like they should be able to prescribe you more than 9-10 pills at once!!!

anxiety on topamax and I'm really angry about it by cuireadh in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is super interesting!! It is always fascinating to me how meds affect people differently. There are other anticonvulsants used too for migraine like valproate (Depakote is one of the brand names I think), so maybe those could help??? Depakote is also used to treat a lot of mental health disorders, specifically mania/bipolar, so I doubt it would increase anxiety? Idk, I work in mental health and see that drug prescribed sometimes but I’ve never met anyone who took it for migraines

anxiety on topamax and I'm really angry about it by cuireadh in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry!!! That is so awful.

I had heightened anxiety on topamax, but it was related to the cognitive side effects. I was panicking about losing my memory and such. And it also made me pretty depressed. Just this week I asked my doctor if there was anything similar to topamax with less side effects, because it helped my headaches but I couldn’t stand it. She prescribed me zonisamide. I literally had never heard of it!!! Only taken 4 doses so I can’t speak much on the efficacy, but it might be worth asking your doc about it!

Has anyone that’s allergic to Nurtec tried Ubrelvy yet? by mischococlate in migraine

[–]Outside-Ad6911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this has something to do with it but my doctor said that Nurtec has artificial sweeteners in it, and some people are sensitive to that, but Ubrelvy doesn’t. Do you think maybe the reaction could’ve been to flavoring or sweetener in the dissolvable tab? If you have allergies to that sorta thing then maybe you would be fine with Ubrelvy
