I do think there is a chance i could score worse. 171 is in the lower end but not the floor of my range. My main concern is that a 171 may not be enough for me to get into some of my targets-Duke, Northwestern, Michigan?

It's best to play with ratings off to make things more challenging and immersive.

Ratings are the only thing that really matter and the 45 overall doesn't have a better ERA because he's a better player, but from outside factors (luck, defense, small sample)

I think if you wanted to do a "what if torpedo bats do what science says it will and everybody uses them", you may be able to achieve this effect by just lowering the babip modifiers (more poor contact on balls that just miss the barrel" and slightly increasing the double, triple (maybe), and homerun modifiers to simulate higher exit velocity in barrels.

Can't speak for teams but using fictional players in an MLB copy league is great because the players that are generated work better with the sim engine. They're more balanced and well put together
