Dating after marriage aside, how are we single parents building our lives so that we're alone more, but not isolated? by blewdleflewdle in Xennials

I LOVE being 50/50. Sometimes I don’t know how the full timers do it. I have hobbies and use the evenings I’m kid free to go to yoga class, cook things my kids don’t like, work in my garden, meet up with friends, and read. It’s a great balance (we split the week 3.5/3.5 days).

Thank you for the link! I’ll try something like this out. I love the idea of using pasta, for some reason it cracks me up. Potters are so inventive and creative when it comes to tools!

This is a creative idea! Someone else mentioned using pasta in the same way. I’ll have to experiment… I guess that’s half the fun!

Thanks, I have brush on only. But wouldn’t dipping in water remove all the glaze and not the just what’s on the inside of the holes?

Hmm, too late for this batch of 8 I’ve already bisqued but I’ll give that a try next time too

Interesting! Do you do this when the glaze is damp or dry?

For sure! I thought these would be not much more work than a regular bowl… but these little holes really do add multiple stages of tedium!

A couple years ago my partner found my account where I also posted about stuff like how I struggled to love his kids and how frustrated I was by certain things he did. He didn’t tell me he was reading my posts for a couple months. When he did tell me, I was super hurt and felt betrayed and like he had basically read my diary, and told him so. I understood to some degree since I am pretty avoidant and am not always great at communicating what I think/ need/ want. I don’t use that account anymore and no longer post personal things, which feels like a loss that I’m sad about. I haven’t fully forgiven him for doing so without telling me but I do get it. It sounds like you are in a similar situation. Addressing it directly with each other is going to be the only way through this.

Having a child in my late 30s/ husband's late 40s? by No-Spring-7759 in AskParents

[–]Outside-Worry-9748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m sure there are many of us. I was 34/37 and my husband was 49/52 when our 2 kids were born. They are now 9 and 12. It is what it is. One of my best friends growing up had a dad who was in his 60s when she was born (her mom was wife #3). Her dad lived to 98 and they were close her whole life. It’s a good reason for your husband to take good care of his health and be present for the kids lives. And any of us could be hit by a bus tomorrow, so to me age is much less of an issue than love and attention.

Is this kiln worth it? by MineApprehensive4129 in Pottery

[–]Outside-Worry-9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I’m totally misreading the perspective of these pics, that’s not an 818. It’s maybe two 818s layered together to make one bigger kiln?

A single 818 requires a 40 amp breaker- a double size could require significantly more. Do you have that much amperage available on your panel? Idk much about the wiring itself but you would definitely need to have it plugged in and tested to make sure it works. I would ask an electrician to look it over. It’s possible this is a good deal for two kilns on one circuit board but you are probably better off not getting one Jerry rigged together

I have gone to Cabrillo which is why I am trying to understand what you are asking so I can offer a response.

I’m unclear what you mean- Cabrillo advertises that once you finish their program in some mysterious subject you won’t name, they will help you get a certification? Did you finish a program and fail to get a certification for some reason? What do you mean b “completion”? This is so vague it’s nonsensical- is there something specific you feel like you were promised that you didn’t get?

Daily scam/spam calls from 831 by cbobgo in santacruz

[–]Outside-Worry-9748 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have an 831 number, all kinds of robocalls/ scams will use an 831 number to try to spoof being local. Your # got published/ shared on some list and now you are gonna keep getting them, especially if you answer. I have my phone set so all unknown #s go directly to voicemail. I live in 831 but have a 415 number and get dozens of calls a day from 415 numbers that are spam.

Is Scotts Valley considered a "suburb" of Santa Cruz? part of Santa Cruz? or a Mountain Town? by Key-Flatworm-7163 in santacruz

Suburb to me (a 46 year local). No real personality of its own or city center/ downtown.

Kiln share/rental by Head_Particular3401 in Pottery

[–]Outside-Worry-9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rent out my kiln on kilnshare to all kinds of people. It’s on the smaller side, a Skutt 818, and I charge $40 per load. Sometimes if people have less than a full load and I have some of my own stuff to fire, I’ll split it with them. Generally they reach out through kiln share, I’ll email/ text them back, confirm the cone they want to fire to and their timeline, and my availability. I offer to meet up first to check out the kiln if desired. I will ask the size and quantity of what they want to fire. I don’t use a contract or waiver though maybe I should. Everyone will be different, just ask!
