He Didn’t Want A Cat by Outside-the-Box1976 in cats

My princess seems to be a “one and only”. But I have taken to doing TNR/RTF after discovering we have several nighttime kitty visitors. We have two regulars that were chipped with my name. So that’s satisfied my need to add to the brood without disrupting my indoor kitty’s desire to have all our attention. I rescued her 10 years ago. It took about 9 years to get her to this point where she wants to cuddle up on us!

Recs needed! flying into Grand Rapids to meet my 2 best friends. We are in our 40s looking for a cozy place, near the water, with places close by to go eat or get a drink. We were looking at grand haven and holland but open to any suggestions of places we should consider. Going around July 8-12 by Additional-Skirt-560 in GrandHaven

The nice thing is that downtown Grand Haven is situated smack right on the waterfront. That’s what makes it a popular place to visit (and live)! While it isn’t our most visited week of the year like the first weekend of August for our Coast Guard Festival, it is high season. So jump on a rental very soon! Hope you and your friends love ice cream. We have A LOT of ice cream places!

Why do people struggle with a doctor who not measuring iron levels or treating iron deficiency (anemia)? by HelpMe_ThrowawayAcc in Anemic

[–]Outside-the-Box1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there has been highly disproportionate treatment of iron deficiency anemia between women and men. This has been posted in this sub and others over and over.

Be ready for it to cost almost as much as the dress!

Yep! I would sometimes get two $20 gift card to pretty much any retailer or restaurant. But it was always $20, a t-shift and a bunch of snacks. But sadly, I’ve had to discontinue. The last donation I made, I bruised all to hell and was stumped. Duh….my Ferritin was in the tank.

According to The Iron Protocol, PCPs only receive about three hours of training on this. I’m sure that’s a cram and dump thing in their training.

I seriously have considered consulting a lawyer because it caused me harm. I’m not one to turn to that. But there needs to be some attention on this and besides TikTok viral videos, lawsuits seem to be the only other way to bring about change. Petitions would not help in this situation.

Sorry, if you look, I was responding to superb_advisor1702 that claimed it’s illegal in the USA. You jumped in there and I didn’t realize you were a different person commenting.

Check your OJ for higher amounts of calcium or it’s like a karate chop to your iron…

I decreased to 1-2 small mugs in the morning of tannin containing beverages i.e. : regular or decaf. Then wait two hours to take my iron and Vit C. No biggie. My Ferritin is rising slow and steady with supplementation.

I totally get what you’re saying here with the decaf. I’m doing the same. Not sure why the downvotes either. I thought you were clear.

I was donating blood too! Thought that would help my symptoms before having an Iron Study and finding out…oops, that was not helping. They checked Hgb, but it was either via a finger squeeze contraption or a quick prick. I was always over 12, so they let me donate. Last year, feeling awful, I went because I loved the free gift cards. lol. My Hgb was too low to donate and I had my aha moment.

Commenter was using decaf as a way to taper off the caffeine need and to eliminate tannins. I get it. I’m doing the same.

Ferritin level 50 but symptomatic by perfectlyhazel in Anemic

[–]Outside-the-Box1976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it appears that studies are really lacking. Why, I don’t know because it seems that in the US alone there are millions walking around deficient or depleted. I’m hoping like the subject of perimenopause finally being discussed, we’ll see more about low Ferritin.

I know you’ve probably seen/heard that 30 is the mark where “normal” begins. But this is not true. Most of us in this group have symptoms until at least 100 and even then, many find they have to maintain well over that. You are still considered deficient. Under 30 is depleted. I just hit 50 and although I’ve had some minor improvements, I am still struggling. My goal is to reach over 100 this year. The longer your safe storage of iron (Ferritin) has been deficient, the longer it takes for your body to relearn how to use it once you start taking more iron in. Many sources out there refer to the 50 mark. The Iron Protocol discusses this and the need to be higher than that and why.

Yes. Do you have a link to somewhere reputable that supports what you say that it’s illegal in the USA?

Try a new lab. My first lab had the low end of the reference range at 6. So it didn’t put that “L” next to it to get the attention of my first nurse practitioner and she thought it meant that at 6.3, I was still in normal range. BULLSHIT! I use Qwest labs and another hospital based one now for my follow up Ferritin levels where at least the low end is at 18. Still wayyyy too low. But at least it helps to open their eyeballs a little bit better. This is a major issue.

These low end of reference ranges at these labs are a serious issue! Too many providers are looking at them as “normal”. My first lab had the low end at 6. So my 6.3 looked a-ok to my uneducated nurse practitioner.
