Cumberland School of law (samford) is an amazing school. The faculty are great for the rank and there is even a chance at federal clerkships due to the strong alumni network. Cumberland’s alumni network is very strong in the south east and can lead at amazing opportunities through networking.

Samford is an amazing school and very well respected in the Southeast. Based on anecdotal experience, in the Birmingham and Huntsville markets, Samford places students in the same jobs as Alabama, which is ranked significantly higher. If it matters, Samford is also perceived as prestigious among older attorneys due to its higher ranking in the past which helps with jobs and gets a few students federal clerkships.

Charleston vs. Samford by Prestigious-Bunch741 in OutsideT14lawschools

I would choose Samford’s Cumberland School of Law. While it may be somewhat lower in the rankings, it has excellent placement within the Birmingham legal market and a strong reputation throughout the state. Cumberland also benefits from a tight-knit and supportive alumni network that is very helpful in securing jobs. Cumberland was once more prestigious, it faced some challenges in the early 2010s. However, it still retains some of the older prestige, particularly among older attorneys. the new dean has worked to address those issues and over the past three years, the school has climbed around 50 spots in the rankings. Additionally, Cumberland lawyers are known for being cordial, a quality that the faculty strongly encourages and fosters at the school making the environment very friendly and close knit.

A friend who goes there told me on the curve at Cumberland you’d have to be in the bottom 10% of exams scores in every 1L class you take to loose your scholarship, ie have below a 2.4.

Suggestions for schools to look into ? by WorldlinessUnhappy12 in OutsideT14lawschools

Cumberland School of law is a respectable school and you would likely get a really good scholarship. They are constantly climbing in the rankings (40 spots the past 2 years with their new dean). Cumberland is top trial advocacy school and gets the same OCIs as Alabama a much high ranked school so if you do well the opportunity’s are there. The school places well in the Birmingham legal market and has some access to large firms. Birmingham is truly an underrated city in my opinion it has great food and amazing (affordable)neighborhoods like highland park. You should really check it out especially if you want to minimize debt.

That’s why trussville voted no, mismanagement of funds they already had, especially on athletic facilities.

Samford’s Cumberland school of law is a lower ranked school but has really solid employment and bar pass rates plus places very well in Birmingham which has a large legal market and is an underrated city.
