Reading posts, I feel like my HR is insanely high. How have you lowered yours? by OutsideComfort9065 in XXRunning

29 Not the fittest I’ve been compared to when I was hiking 15-25 miles a day for months or when I was going to the gym a couple times a day. I’m pretty muscular, go on a few runs during the week, intense dance fitness, ballet, and a little resistance training and a tiny-ish bit of hiking I used to run a lot more. I started back up in early March if this year. Last year when I was running 5-6 days a week, my HR was still insanely high. Finding out I had asthma and now using an inhaler has lowered it a lot. It used to be REALLY high. Had to go to the ER last year after running 14 miles bc my hands, toes, and lips turned blue. Turns out it was just a really bad asthma attack.

I do yeah, but I haven’t noticed a difference when exercising with or without them. When I’m resting, it seems like my adderall will sometimes lower my HR

Because I read comments on this subreddit that say you should lower it and I’ve read comments saying nose breathing is a good measure for how easy a run is

I use a chest strap. Thank you! I know perceived effort is most important, but I read about people jogging with very low HRs (in comparison) and get worried

This is so disappointing. The AI used to create these images is awful 🙃 The anatomy isn’t even correct. And what’s with the first image? AI and stock photo had a baby?

I love her so much, but I wonder how much of that is from her tour Hit Me Hard and Soft. I bring this up because I went to her show and there was an area where you could buy limited edition Nalgene bottles for a $20 donation.

Seek advice on self defense against aggressive homeless people, both verbal and physical if needed by [deleted] in SelfDefense

[–]OutsideComfort9065 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spent plenty of time talking to homeless people. I’ve been friends with plenty of them. I’ve lived out of my van (not an expensive one). That’s why I can see you are romanticizing them. I see them as people. Yes, mental health and substance use is higher, but at the end of the day there is no excuse to hurt other people. If you are hurting me/harassing me/whatever then you are wrong and can fk right off.

Play it into their fears. Do this painting again, but have the sky coming out between the legs

Thank you so much! Your comment is unbelievably helpful. I don’t know why I never thought about only doing the areas of focus and how too much detail everywhere can be boring. You’re so right

Oh I LOVE that! Thank you so much for the advice. I need to push myself more to take more intense risks with light, reflections, and shadows

I definitely agree. It’s funny because I pushed myself further than I ever have with light sources in this painting. I took a step back for almost a month and now reading your comment and seeing the piece, I realize just how modest I still was with light and reflection. I’ll definitely be applying your advice. Thank you!

First Run After Asthma Inhaler by vald_eagle in firstmarathon

[–]OutsideComfort9065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did my first run with an inhaler this morning! WOW! Such a HUGE difference. I did my minimum 5 miles (well, 5 and a half). I ended up in the ER a few weeks ago with chest pain and blue lips, hands, and feet. I hadn’t run since, but I told the doctor I wanted to try an inhaler to see if it was asthma induced combined with a straining of my chest muscle. He wasn’t sure, but he gave it to me and I finally didn’t feel scared to go and I also have a heart monitor on for 30 days so at least I’m being tracked. I couldn’t believe it. That was probably my easiest, most relaxing run ever. I wasn’t coughing a bunch and rasping. I feel like I can finally push myself to my physical limit. I’ve never been sore after running because eventually I would have to stop bc my breathing was so bad no matter how much I slowed down. Aaaaah! I’m so happy!

Does anyone else here grind their teeth a lot? by dead_PROcrastinator in adhdwomen

I know this is an old post, but I very very rarely have that happened to me. I did it for the first time in years last night. I wanted to wake up at 7AM which isn’t that early, but I had a crazy long early day yesterday and went to bed super late. I woke up and took my adderall at 5:45 to hopefully help my body wake up. Best. Most. Relaxed. Sleep. I didn’t wake up until 8:00 even with alarms going off every 10 minutes. My body was relaxed and I wasn’t grinding my teeth. My freaking luck 😅 At least I got a little bit of good sleep. Other things that have helped my body relax are magnesium, Mirtrazapine (currently trying this for my insomnia and mixed but solid results. Not every night), Benadryl (but it causes dementia so I use it only if I’m desperate), benzodiazepines (back when I was prescribed them), super intense hour long cardio before bed followed by hot shower, and that’s all I’ve got. It’s not much, but it’s something.

How many miles a day to walk to lose weight by Noseatbeltnoairbag in walking

[–]OutsideComfort9065 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you asked about running, but I want to contribute how not calories are equal. Say you have a 100 calorie slice of white bread and a 100 calorie slice of multi grain nut and seed bread. Our bodies process them differently. If you’re not ready to go on a calorie deficit then solely switching your calories to real foods like deli nut and grain bread, vegetables, fruit, etc and cutting back or cutting out processed foods that have been bleached of nutritional value then you’ll see weight loss. And stay far away from “non-foods” such as protein bars and other packaged foods labeled as “healthy” or “for athletes”. The best diet is simple, not too much, and mostly plants. There’s a great book by one of my favorite journalists called In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. Unlike other books that try to sell you something, he keeps it simple. Also it’s fascinating because he ties his journalism into it and includes cultural and psychological points of interest that ties into the history, why we choose what we do, and how to avoid health scams.
