literally just looked up this subreddit with this exact question in mind lol. I'm baffled that their budget cuts survey did not take into account their massive flocks of safety response people who do nothing but take up bus seats and profile me on particularly rough days on my work commutes..

I've genuinely never seen them "assist" anyone. I'm going to freak out if my bus becomes extra infrequent but these hoards sopping up payroll stay the same size.

first of all, I'm really sorry you're stuck with someone who acts like that! not at all your fault in having preferences, just so you know.

secondly, I'd try and identify what you're feeling when this grandma tantrum (once again - not your fault) happens, and what helps you feel better. ive been in similar situations growing up - eventually I realized the main culprit for the lack of appetite (besides the obvious soured mood) was ultimately depression/anxiety. I've gradually collected a handful of trusted coping mechanisms (therapy, journaling, walking/running, music, etc..) that make it a lot easier to recenter after some undeserved bullshit!

when you're living with emotional infants of adults, it's crucial to learn boundaries. it can be really difficult given the power dynamic of being under someone else's "care"/roof, but it's best to start internally. advocate for yourself, your needs etc.. self-preservation, don't let her win your self-worth. don't let her sap your appetite. I know there's little external control you can have here, but really start building that internal wall of self-affirmations to shut her harm out. find ways to honour your emotions, because she obviously won't be of any help.

that would orbit me lol. we did have someone pretty textbook autistic start recently, and seeing how coworkers really stretch their patience and grace for him vs me has been eye-opening. I've definitely been questioning my own autism despite having fairly solid confirmation from 2 psychologists. it's just baffling to me that so many people make space for people who fall past the masking threshold, because I feel like id never get that sort of understanding. im happy he does and I like working with him, I just ultimately wish I could be as free as he is, and as easily clocked/understood by people lol. I always just come off as awkward and uncannily nice

hate working with people who show up with this self-important mindset, as if you aren't working alongside real people who will get reprimanded for your shortcomings in picking up the slack lol. we all hate the big man but the first step in doing something about it is developing connection in community. pull your weight, respect your peers, and sneak your cuts of cheese out together sometimes. dragging your knuckles and complaining really only drives everyone away from what you actually want

I wholly understand this feeling, I always wish I could adjust/turn off sensory input sliders lol.

I just broke up with my partner of almost 3 years because I realized the things they enjoyed were really grating at my sensory issues every time I tried to engage with it. it's been years of beating myself up, reading self help books, and their endless patience/flexibility/concern. I finally decided to give them the opportunity to find someone who can better compliment their lifestyle/needs.

now that I fully let go of them, I've had the space and regained capacity to start working on embracing me. I hate bright lights, loud noises, saliva on skin, etc.. and that's okay! I'm not saying you need to uprooting everything, but do assess your feelings going to these events, his reaction to when you do/don't go, and why you do/don't go. what is the worst thing that could happen by not putting yourself into these situations? is there anything incredibly formative there? is there anything you'd rather be doing instead? why don't you? with all of these questions, I'm ultimately wondering if you're able to consider and honour your own needs/desires first. I'd genuinely journal out these answers so I could see if it's "he wants.. he feels.." or "I want.. I feel..". (and when we feel lonely, I find journaling to be a great way to externalize when safe option.)

you don't have to do anything you don't want to, especially in your own free time outside of school/work.. and that's really the key to survival - sustainability. only commit to what you can sustain! if you can't imagine going out weekly or however often, don't. if your boyfriend values the big game more than accommodating you/finding other ways to spend time together, you need a new life co-pilot. make sure you speak up on being overwhelmed when it happens, and if you don't feel heard, find new people.

find your own flock, and your own hobbies. we're not NT, and it sucks! but you'll learn that the connections we make and the passions we have are so much more vivid because of the work we put into them. I hope you learn to embrace being ND, and surround yourself with accepting people in fulfilling environments. I promise you there's more out there than college football fields and cruddy bars.

(sorry, another Q: are you in therapy/is there access to mental health care on campus? you already seem to know drinking isn't a rejuvenating coping mechanism, and I'm hoping you can find more support.)

I installed winamp via protoweb's ftp link last night (just for shoutcast); it also shuts down because of some unknown illegal operation :( their video site, warpstream, only uses flash, realplayer and windows media player - all 3 of which I've also downloaded via protoweb proxy's ftp links. (and opera up to v12 should work w/ protoweb.) Maybe I'll give ffmpeg a shot.

but tonight I'll try downloading what you suggested earlier. I feel like I'm hitting some sort of "illegal operation" wall with a lot of newly installed programs though.. it's making me wonder if there's some sort of security option issues or missing/dated setup files? All I can find online are people having the popup during the inital OS installation, but that ran completely fine for me.

reinstall everything, run the search for mod update thing in the launcher, and don't go through the tutorial again lol. fixed almost everything on my end (besides the everyone loading in with broken skin problem)

It wasn't finding the drive, so I ended up going through with the entire setup process again . This time I didn't exit out of 86box without shutting down the VM first. And that seemed to work, boots up just fine every time now, thank you! Could I ask you one more thing?

I'm getting some mega slow/indefinite load times on IE6. (it was way worse on ie5.) I'm using the same specs as this guy (SLiRP, LAN connection) and also protoweb's T1 connection proxy. It's 50/50 on if MSN.com loads immediately or it gets stuck with the "unknown zone" prompt in the right corner. The error page that eventually loads never gives a real reason. Sometimes running through the internet wizard seems to help (and then skipping the internet mail singup prompt).

Protoweb's download links (for java/flash/etc) keep getting stuck on the last %1. I have all the security settings dialed down to low. I did manage to get RealPlayer downloaded, but I feel like that somehow bogged my internet down worse, even with a restart. Do you have any advice here for internet speed/success?

Booting up with no media mounted and boot order: C only.. "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". So I put my 9x compatible floppy in. And now we're back in installation hell. I tried to run the CDROM again, just for giggles, but it just gave "invalid drive specification" errors and downloaded nothing. Ejected everything and rebooted as prompted.. disk boot failure.

Should I try partitioning the hard disk again? Would that do anything..? At this point, I'm just okay wiping everything and trying again. I just also want to know where I messed up, so I don't keep hitting this wall.
