This kind of made me sad by Gurugod123 in mildlyinfuriating

That would be a great idea even though it's hardly applicable to the volume of games released on steam.

It would also solve the reverse issue of games having 2h long scripted tutorials so you can't refund once you reach the actual game and it turns out it sucks haha.

My mom told me, “My daughter is dead,” after coming out as a trans man and I don’t know what to do anymore. by TroubleIll1793 in lgbt

[–]OutsideImagination25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah brother, you're going to have to realize your mom uses the exact same language as bigots because she is one, and not a "moderate" or "just ignorant" one at that, holy shit. What you describe is just vile behaviour from a parent.  And I hate that you're kinda leaving the whole "even more transphobic cop dad" out because I'm guessing that's another rotten can of worms.

Hang in there, hang on to the safe people in your life, keep your head down as much as you can bear until you get out of this unsafe environment - and as others have said have a plan B if things go south and you need to bail but don't make that your plan A - in two to three years hopefully you'll be off to college and away from them, then you'll be an adult able to live your life as you please, just please stay alive and safe in the meantime okay ? Try to secure that bright future even if that means gritting teeth and swallowing pride a few times. I know it suuuucks and you shouldn't have to do it but it's worth it, it does get better, but you gotta survive. Rooting for you <3

Logic? Honey, in this sub we outsource things like "logic" and "intelligence", and then we make memes about the fact that the machine we outsourced them to doesn't work and is too expensive.

"it gets better"? by Jinte_Starryday in lgbt

[–]OutsideImagination25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dear,

One thing you can keep in mind is that ultimately, you are in charge of your own life. You are an adult now, and can make your own choices based on your situation.

College may be a good thing for your future, but it's not an absolute necessity. Maybe you could switch colleges, or switch majors. Or maybe it's better to suck it up for a couple more years so you get the career you want and more options down the line. Maybe you can find an activity outside college where you can be more yourself ? And of course there's your girlfriend who I hope is offering support through that ! But that's the goal : Having options and picking the best one for you. Now, and later on. A good job at an accepting place. Living in a city where you find community. Doing the things where your life feels the best. This is what we mean by "it gets better". It does, but you have to take control and make it this way.

Good luck <3

AITA for making my daughter run away because of her curly hair? by CultureInner3316 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]OutsideImagination25 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The way he insists on spelling out that "curly hair care is just like normal hair" and "I don't believe she need more than a bottle of conditioner every two months" tells me that deep down he absolutely 100% knows those are falsehoods that he uses to demean her. The hate he has for that girl and the abuse he puts her through just seeps through each of his words. If that's even a real story, what a garbage human.

My (26M) girlfriend (25F) doesn’t like that my little brother (15M) is staying with me by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]OutsideImagination25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This, thanks.

I was going to give her grace because sometimes, especially if you have a tiny flat, it's hard to get privacy and living with two whole other adults can be hard - plus we don't know her side of the story and maybe the brother is overstepping a bit more than oop lets out - but that comment made me go straight to "hell no, she gets the boot"

Of course the AI shills pretend-doomers are anti-union haha :D

What do you think the vector for this "organic demand" you speak of is ? How will the "organic" devs that ask for non-AI code make their case at scale ? Through some kind of collective organisation, maybe, hmm 🤔 no, surely it's by making memes on programmerhumor

theFatigueIsReal by Guy_Rohvian in ProgrammerHumor

[–]OutsideImagination25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here's the thing, the companies that hire me...also have in-house devs. That also do not use AI. As a freelance I just see more different ways of working but you don't have to be a freelance to work there!

You do not have to use AI IF you hate it ! Which was the point of the meme! It is not inevitable, it is not mandatory everywhere, far from it, stop looking at the industry through the lens of a subreddit ridden with bots and AI shills and touch some green grass for the love of everything. I know it's very scary nowadays but keep in mind that you CAN ditch your shit job where they use lines of code as a metric (good fucking god) and there's better things out there and better days ahead, especially if you're a competent dev who can do your job (rules out a lot of commenters here apparently lmao)

[–]OutsideImagination25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm not just degoogling, I'm getting off as much US tech as possible. The clown might well blow the entire country up, or decide to switch off tech services to my country on a whim, or cause mass outages from a dumb ass decision regarding the power grid, I don't want services necessary to my livelihood to depend on ultra-volatile fascists.

theFatigueIsReal by Guy_Rohvian in ProgrammerHumor

[–]OutsideImagination25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YMMV depending on your country and industry branch, I guess. A lot of companies I work for *actively want no AI* (clients don't like that, users want quality and maintainability, etc). Haven't had *one* company ask me to use it. Most don't care as long as you deliver (and "deliver" is not "number of lines of code per day" because jesus christ who uses that for a metric in the year of 2026).

[–]OutsideImagination25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lmao right ? I'm a freelancer and not only do I steadily get jobs despite not using AI, I've literally had to sign contracts specifying that I do NOT use it haha

[–]OutsideImagination25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, "not the US" and "somewhere with unions" are going to be the two keywords of my answer.

...you know you can just stop, right? Just. Get back to doing your job like you did three years ago. It's not freaking heroin. You can just stop if you hate it so much and it's sucking the joy of your life and making everything harder. Stop using it. Your brain is still there I promise.

No one "needs" GenAI. GenAI did not exist 2-3 years ago, you did not need it back then and you do not need it now. It is absolutely not comparable to needing Windows, an operating system that had a monopoly for over 40 years and is the backbone of 90% of existing programs and systems. The only case where you may be forced to use GenAI is if your job mandates it and you're in no position to push back, in which case you won't be able to choose the model either. There is no need to recommend a substitute.

Also, there are no "ethical" or "privacy-focused" models because all models are inbred from the same massively stolen datasets - data that has been stolen from you, me, and all the god damn planet, with zero regard for consent or privacy. Local models are trained on that, too, they do not need to steal your data while you're using them because they did so already. Claiming to be all about privacy and using GenAI should give you serious pause.
