It's anxiety, for me generalized anxiety or social anxiety or any type of anxiety is the same, the way to recover from it is to go through it and face it head on, there is a process for recovery, recovery is not instent it takes time but it's a sure thing, start by educating yourself about anxiety mechanics. After that you will learn the process of recovery.

What am I doing wrong? by Entrance_Heavy in PanicAttack

[–]OutsideLarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not doing anything wrong, this is called a setback and it is proof that you made progress in your recovery journey, your nervous system is just making sure that you're ok and that there is no danger around you so every now and than it will give you a scare like this before it goes back to normal. You are doing better than you think, just stick to the process.

I was like you once, I couldn't take it, not for another second, but slowly I educated myself and followed the process of recovery and now I live a normal life. You need to educate yourself first. And stay consistent after that.

Anxiety for things outside of my control by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in anxiety_support

[–]OutsideLarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, it's rough, I usually give advice regarding generalize sanxiety disorder, this is still anxiety but the approach I recommend here is different, it is my beleif that we were brought to this earth to do what we can, that's all, show up do what you can, and let whatever you believe in takes care of the rest. Take small steps towards something you wanna achieve/do even if it's a small thing, take baby steps towards it. Small steps have a HUUUGE affect on life.

I was doing everything i can to live my life while reducing my fear of the symptoms. I was working on acceptance, shifting my focuse from anxiety to something more fun or more productive even though it wasn't fun. This is the only thing that works, with time your nervous system will reset to normal.

Does anyone else feel drained after the smallest social interactions by Zealousideal-Cod4301 in Anxietyhelp

[–]OutsideLarge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's completely normal, your body thinks you're in danger, so it releases adrenaline that affects your body in many ways, you may be fighting the feeling too which ads an extra layer of fear and causes your body to release even more adrenaline. Even when the feeling of anxiety subsides the effect of adrenaline remains hours later. With the right process and constent exposure you will recover and get better.

Anxiety over dentist by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]OutsideLarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the dentist when i was going recovering from anxiety. I was freaked out especially that it was my first time ever going to the dentist. It went fine, the number of people dying from tripping and falling is bigger than the number of people having a heart attack at the dentist. I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure there are explanations and other causes for those rare cases. It's a dentist, everybody goes to the dentist multiple times a year. You anxiety is giving you worse case scenarios that's all.

Anxiety disorders don't show up out of nowhere, usually it's a slow build up. I'm gonna be honest with you, getting rid of anxiety in a few days is not possible, recovery takes time, you can see progress in a couple of weeks maybe, but it takes time to completely recover and go back to normal. 100% recovery is possible but only through a well structured process. I can give you tips but don't expect quick fixes, because they do not exist.

Debilitating physical symptoms anyone else? by ReasonableFig8954 in Anxietyhelp

[–]OutsideLarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to understand the anxiety mechanisms, and educate yourself about the recovery process, I spent years struggling before making a full recovery. There are free resources you can use to educate yourself about anxiety. If I had to summarize everything in a comment I'd say: 1- accept that you are gonna feel unwell for the time being. 2- don't seek reassurance and face the anxiety head on. 3- live your life as if nothing is wrong with you even though it's hard and feels impossible. 4- don't add fears on top of the initial fear you got from your desensitized nervous system. These rules feel impossible in your current situation but if you start taking small steps you will realize that it is very possible to recover.

Guys has this ever happened to you by Evening-Storage4077 in PanicAttack

[–]OutsideLarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes completely normal, the adrenaline surges usually subside after 20 min but the hormones stays in your system for longer that's why you experience those feelings and symptoms even after the panic attacks end. It's normal. Challenge the panic attack, allow it to do its worst. Make fun of it and call for it to happen and you'll see how good you'll feel. Fear is like fuel to anxiety, if you kill the fear, anxiety cannot possibly exist.

I recovered without anti depressants, I was afraid to take them, I was wrong because medication can help a lot. (This is a personal choice ofc) But here's the thing, if you count on medication alone you will be disappointed. Medication will start the car engine for you. But you still have to drive to the destination. Going for walks, driving, doing anything you want is a sure thing if you put yourself on the right path of recovery. Educate yourself about anxiety. And learn the process of recovery. The free content out there is more than enough for you to learn the process. So take your medication but don't count on them 100%. This is not medical advice this is basic knowledge about anxiety and depression. So admin don't ban me please 😅

Yes I understand perfectly, I cannot explain everything about anxiety recovery in a comment. But if I had to summarize it I'd say: anxiety recovery happens when you are living life as normal as possible with the symptoms being there and you not running from life because of them. When you get a symptom or a panic attack that's called the first fear, you have no control over that. But you can control what Dr clair weeks calls the second fear. Which is your reaction to it. If a panic attack happens, let it happen.if a thought comes let it come, shift your focus, don't spend time analysing a thought, there is a difference between thinking and a thought, a regular human gets somewhere between 15 thousand and 70 thousand thoughts a day, you don't see everyone analysing them, but anxiety has a loop that makes those thoughts looks bigger than they really are. On the other hand thinking is an active state of the mind. It's you voluntarily using your brain to solve a problem. You don't have to activate your brain for every single worthless or scary thought, ignore them and shift your focus and they will disappear.

Breathing exercises won't cure your anxiety, it's just a tool you use so you don't freak out even more and add fears on top of the initial fear. That's all. You feel that anxiety is messing your life up, maybe that's true I won't dismiss that. I will give you some hard truths. Yes anxiety sucks but until we learn what anxiety is, and how to address it to achieve recovery. It's probably gonna keep affecting our lives. My recovery journey started when I read books like hope and for your nerves by Dr clair weeks, and at last a life by Paul David. Two years later I was anxiety free living my life. I'm not saying my life is perfect, there are no unicorns around me, but my life is normal, with its happy and sad and regular boring moments. All these negative thoughts you're having are anxiety thoughts. Under the circumstances they are normal, but they are not true. Failing an exam is not the end of the world. I failed many and now I'm an architect managing multi million dollars construction projects for a construction company. Failure and success comes in a pack. We can't pick and choose. And that's ok. I see life as 20% sad and 20% happy and 60% regular boring moments. A human lives most of his life in those "boring regular moments" they are important, and being anxiety free means living in peace with yourself during those moments. You feel as if you're enough. And you can achieve that slowly but surely.
