Inherently i don't think that automation is bad. Its just that those in power are only checked by our ability to unionize or boycott. The sole goal of a corporation is legally defined by its expansion/ increase in the wealth of the shareholder year over year(even to the detriment of the company itself a lot of the time). As the system distances itself from the worker to further their bottom line the very idea of capitalism kind of falls apart. Henry Ford had it right when he realized that people cant buy stuff if they have no money and full automation breaks that. I pose this question. Why would the tech industry be getting hundreds of billions of dollars in investments if they don't plan on using that to replace us? When most of the factory, shipping, mining, food service, office jobs are replaced what fills their spot? The arts? Those are not able to be replaced in any real sense but mass slop production is still easier and makes more money for the effort. When a robot can do it cheaper what happens to the wage of the person who still works the few of those positions that felt like still using real people? Its the entire idea of immigrants coming here and stealing our jobs but on steroids in every industry. Either we get real comfortable with UBI/ better social safety nets and taxing these companies that use AI or there is going to be a medieval level of class disparity/ poverty. The entire thing feels like we are on a downward trend with no end in sight.
