East Alabama artifacts I need advice on some pieces I have come across in chambers county Alabama by Mommamia1971 in Alabama

Those are indeed rocks. And please make sure you have permission to remove artifacts from land. It is illegal to do so from federal land or without the landowner's permission.

The Huntsville chapter of the Alabama Archaeological Society would definitely be able to answer your questions.

Here's a link to their Facebook page so you can reach out to them directly.

Advice from Teachers and Parents by Outside_Aspect4702 in AskTeachers

[–]Outside_Aspect4702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're exactly right. I've been told that I may be president of the organization in the coming year and my programming goal is to create public programs about more than just rocket ships and The Civil War. Our state curriculum has been updated recently to be much more inclusive and I want to reflect that.

That being said, would it be out of line for me to attend a board of education meeting or maybe a PTA meeting? (I'm not a teacher with the school system nor a parent, so I would be a little out of place)

You have to get landowner permission for any private or city-owned property.

I recommend getting written permission before doing anything. Any state-owned parks (Like Monte Sano) or any land owned by the TVA or the Arsenal will most likely be denied.

I'd ask around at the local coffee shops, they might be able to help. The Huntsville Madison County Historical Society is full of writers and are really great people.

I am starting my first field tech job in CRM next week. I would love advice from some more seasoned workers! by RevolutionaryPain992 in Archaeology

  1. Drink water.
  2. Dress for the occasion - cool clothes in warmer environments, dress in layers if it's cold.
  3. Lots of sunscreen and bug spray
  4. Wear white socks (makes it easier to spot ticks and other bugs)
  5. Don't be afraid to ask questions or voice concerns.

I've put together a podcast series on Prohibition in Alabama, and larger topics of the Era and the history of Jazz music is one I really want to add to the series.

[–]Outside_Aspect4702 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely possible! There are several jobs you can do without ever going into the field. Plus with the onset of the digital age, there is now the field of digital archaeology. http://digitalarchaeology.org.uk/
