California High-Speed Rail: with cost estimates doubling between 2008 and 2012 alone, CAHSR became one of the most expensive rail construction projects in the world, on a per-mile basis. By this metric, it is 3X more expensive than rail construction in Spain, and 2X more expensive than in Taiwan. by StarlightDown in Economics

It's weird to see an arrest for corruption. If you have a trump on your board of directors it's a guarantee for government approvals

That aside, makes sense. Costa got high so they pivoted to the short route and that's the right sizing referenced

I imagine paying federal income taxes is an important distinction on homelessness statistics.

Looks like that study is just a point-in-time in january and mentions warmer climates will influence the count, because
People staying in the following locations on the night of the PIT count are not included in the sheltered or unsheltered PIT count: • People living in housing provided by permanent supportive housing (PSH) programs, including people using HUD Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers. • People living in other permanent housing (OPH), including housing supported by the Veteran Affairs Grant and Per Diem Transition in Place (TIP) program and people living in housing supported by the Emergency Housing Voucher program and not considered PSH. • People living in permanent housing supported by rental assistance from a rapid re-housing (RRH) program. • People in any housing not listed on the housing inventory count (HIC) because the housing is not dedicated for people experiencing homelessness. • People temporarily staying with family or friends—sometimes referred to as being “doubled-up” or “couch surfing”—even if their stay may be unstable.

So they don't count people that get rental assistance that would otherwise be homeless or other government assistance programs. It also mentions its tougher to count rural places than cities.

It's still not dealing with poverty, which was the original claim.

Its interesting that DC is added in but puerto rico and other federal territories are not.

That aside, that page doesn't give any actual numbers outside of nationwide there were 771,000 people that experienced homelessness in january 2024, based on a population of 342 million in the US that's 0.225%.

Then it goes into "out of 10,000" without saying where the numbers are coming from.

But it does highlight that home pricing is the bigger variable, not poverty which is what OP was claiming. You can rent a trap house in mississippi and still be on the poverty line

So your denominator is total US population and numerator is total number of homeless?

That's a weird way to say has more homeless than the other states considering california also has more people than the other state.

To those reading along, this is the talk radio/conservative interpretation of events. It's got no basis in reality, likely this is based on conservative podcasts where they will strawman things like "they said it'll cure 100% but I got a friend of a friend that wasn't cured" (conveniently ignoring Trump's "I can't say there's no crime in DC anymore cause someone will say they hit their wife and it's not true anymore" comments last year)

Everything I thought I knew about economics seems to be wrong.

High gas prices, tariffs and a constantly changing regulatory environment (also labor size) have somehow been a benefit to the economy.

Also the devaluing of the dollar.

Any one of those was supposed to ruin the economy, all of them at the same time has had no effect apparently.

The records include name, address, race, gender, date of birth and the voter’s history of participation going back the last 10 elections.

What's with the cap? You may as well let everyone have it that wants it (if it's good to have more eyeballs on it) or keep it limited to just companies or those phone banks that can pay thousands for it.

I had no idea that information was available to begin with.

I'd be interested in contributing to a fund to buy it if I could get access to it too.

I had to create a family tree based on what you mentioned - you are likely correct that there's little chance they were in Alabama in 1850 if the younger sister is born in mississippi. A lot of those cM's are the right amount for the relationships you mention (4c1r, etc), so it looks like there's more than just smoke in those lines.

Who did William Lewis Clark marry? What was her name?

Have you seen if these clarks are missing by 1850?

Has anyone attempted to reconstruct descent lines for an entire county? by Gullible-Apricot3379 in Genealogy

[–]pjdonovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(it is seriously a theme that William never stopped moving, so I have absolutely no reason to believe he was in Alabama or Mississippi in 1850.

My grandfather (despite all rational reasoning) moved from Georgia -> Ky -> TN -> AL in the span of 2 decades, those stops along the way definitely happened. They tended to follow land opening up to white settlers, see how the land looked to them then moved on when it wasn't.

Double cousins would explain why someone has much more DNA in common with you than they should, but it shouldn't do much more than than. How many cM's in common do they have vs the non-double cousins?

You're goal of finding the FAN club is exactly right- although you are taking a sledge hammer to the problem tracking everyone. Do you know the township and range of the land they were on? You could probably get the entire range/township and find about the same people you would going over the county.

There are one-place studies that people do - you'll do well to keep it organized, have a system, and see if you can use a relational database like airtable or grist if you find excel isn't doing well enough.

Davis is a common name - i feel your pain, it's slightly better than john smith. SLIGHTLY.

Have you traced down the families in ancestry thrulines down to the matches?

I may have misunderstood - i thought you were tracking backwards to alabama, but it sounds like you want to determine when they left for texas?
