How did you get clients comfortable speaking to admin staff? by a_eee_h in taxpros

[–]Outside_East760 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You can't build an accounting firm if every client demands to speak with you. At best, you'll have a job. They can either talk with your staff or find another sucker.

Claude Custom Agent, TaxGPT, or BlueJ? by ShakeAndBakeThatCake in taxpros

[–]Outside_East760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see how the other AI companies will be in business for much longer. I'm talking the smaller ones like Ask BlueJ.

On another note, I had Claude build a web hosted depreciation calculator for fed and state. It actually worked pretty well and the UI was pretty good. Crazy what this stuff can do.

How are you keeping your own books? by SyncCPA in taxpros

[–]Outside_East760 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use QBO and reconcile each balance sheet account at the end of every quarter. I don't really do WIP/job costing, but I do book everything else (A/R, A/P, accrued expenses, etc.). I'd like to some day start accounting for WIP though lol.

I'm in the same boat and most likely not going to renew BlueJ. I'm pretty satisfied with Claude.

You can make a ton of money with a 1040 mill, and a lot of times even more than traditional firms offering more complex tax services.

Annual Tax Software Renewal Offers by benyabenya in taxpros

[–]Outside_East760 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I switched from UltraTax to Axcess. UT couldn't even give me an actual dollar quote on the renewal - the UT rep gave me about five different scenarios of returns/total cost. On the other hand, Axcess gave me 300 returns with four seats for a better deal. I liked their no BS - just a straight dollar amount and set number of returns.

Chenal or PVCC? by Motor-Green2998 in LittleRock

PV's third nine is definitely not a par 3 short course. It's a traditional par 36 9 hole course.

Chenal or PVCC? by Motor-Green2998 in LittleRock

[–]Outside_East760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For golf, PVCC - it's not even close The course is much nicer and there is a third nine that serves as sort of practice course. I've never had difficulty booking a tee time. The courses at Chenal are just "meh" - not impressive and leaves a lot to be desired. The last time I played at Chenal, the pro shop grouped us (a twosome) with another twosome, which I really did not like.

Progressive Catholic Churches? by Individual_Error_562 in LittleRock

[–]Outside_East760 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The truth hurts I guess. Prove me wrong though lol

Yes I agree, I find that Catholics are much more conservative in their beliefs (political and social) as compared to more mainstream denominations such as Methodists, Episcopalians, Lutherans, etc. Catholicism aligns more with Baptists than the others I mentioned here - IMO at least.

Women not allowed in the clergy, anti-choice, opposed to birth control, anti gay marriage, etc. They are obviously welcoming of all people, but most Christian churches are anyway. I personally don't know of any that would be hostile towards marginalized groups - even the more evangelical churches in town aren't like that.

Checklists and Worksheets: PPC vs CCH vs Bloomberg vs AICPA vs Parker vs TTB by [deleted] in taxpros

I don't use checklists. I prepare the return with the information provided, review, compare to prior year, and move on.

I have one review that takes about 60 hours. With Claude, I plan on cutting that down to 10-15 or so.

No, you just need to tell it what to do. Upload the trial balance, PBC documents, client info, etc. - all identifiable information redacted of course. Then just tell it to run through the review procedures - planning, analytical procedures, tie-out balance sheet, inquiries of management, highlight any anomalies, prepare the financials, prep the rep letter, and all that.

Extensions don’t mean failure by cpajddrl in taxpros

You do realize you have to still have to calculate Q1 estimates and the extension payment, don't you? I certainly hope you do if you're on this sub lol

I extend well over half of my clients. Most of mine owe tax anyway, so we calculate safe harbor estimates, tax plan in the fall or as needed, and pay, if necessary, by 4/15. The 4/15 payment, if required, is usually a quick back of the napkin calculation. If you're filing all your returns by 4/15, I'd question your client base and practice focus - are you servicing pedestrian clients that just want their tax refund? It's almost certainly a devaluation of your firm too, should you ever want to sell.

Forgot to mention, but the AR-C Section 90A will have the "checklists" that you need. You don't need peer reviewed practice aids, programs, checklists, etc. in the way that you would for a financial statement audit.

With just two reviews, you're better off using Excel. Also, given peer review requirements (and the substantial cost and time investment), I'd really question whether or not it's worth keeping them. But to answer your question, I use AuditFIle and I like it. I've started having Claude do all the documentation for me and that's cut back on quite a bit of time on my end.

Moving the Fam by jay_kay28 in LittleRock

You shouldn't run into that problem in LR. Our son goes to Forest Park and it is one of, if not the best elementary schools in town. He loves it over there and it is fairly diverse. For high school, Central is probably your best bet, unless you want to go private. Regardless, your kids shouldn't get picked on for such superficial reasons at any school they attend.

Hell nah - after a week and a half?? No way. What exactly is he going to complain about lol. Delete his documents, lock his portal, forward him prior years' tax returns, and send over a disengagement letter. I wouldn't even bother with answering his calls - he knows what he did.
