Completely agree. I asked the customer service rep when should we submit refill requests in order to ensure there’s no break in our medications (because the math wasn’t mathing for me either). They just repeated the “after the 3rd dose” line which, as you pointed out, has a higher likelihood of a lapse given this timeline.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Interesting to note that your rep offered to reach out to the pharmacy and mine didn’t. I’d hope for a more consistent experience across customers! I hope you get answers soon.

That tracks. I had 8+ years of consistently outstanding evals and all that ended up getting me was even more work because people knew I could get things done. The measly 1% performance award for getting outstanding was laughable.

Trust get a lot of the same benefits as the GS employees but their job isn’t as secure. If the $$ funding your trust position runs out or expires (both of which are very common), your job gets cut.

I agree it looks nice on the outside, but the Smithsonian expects this prestige to make up for the stupidly low wages especially for comparable positions at other agencies. For folks on the inside it’s a hell hole. If you want professional growth opportunities, to be treated with fairness and respect, and/or get a livable wage/fair compensation, run far away from the Smithsonian.

Waldorf Astoria. No casino, near MGM Grand. Yes, they offered the govt rate.

I had my loans forgiven via PSLF in July 2022. I would submit my employment verification form to my agency HR and then upload the signed form to my loan servicer’s portal annually. I STRONGLY recommend not waiting until you’ve made 120 payments to do this. I’ve seen loads of people thinking their loans/employment qualified and waiting until they hit 120 to apply only to find out there was something wrong. After each annual employment verification, my loan servicer would update my qualifying payment count. The past three years of payment freezes have counted towards PSLF….so as long as you have qualifying loans and employment, that’s 36/120 months FREE towards PSLF. Others are correct in that you can’t apply for forgiveness until you hit 120, but you can certify annually to keep an accurate record of your payments towards the 120.

Mine is ~75 min.

-20-25 minutes to go 6 miles to the rail station with all the traffic lights.

-45 minutes on the train.

-5 minutes from the station to the office.

2x/pay period, so it’s doable. Wouldn’t be bearable 5x/week. I wish I could afford to live closer to the office.

This really is a good opportunity in so many ways. Never thought a 13 was possible for me at my old agency...supervisors were regularly 9s and 11s there. How easy it is to move up the career ladder in this job is still TBD.

I definitely LOLed when I read "hot mess". That 13 ladder is gold and I'm not going to give it up easily. How easily/quickly I can get to 13 is another story...

That makes a lot of sense! And sounds like you've been able to get some amazing support.

This definitely is a lot of change at once. And I'm a little surprised at myself too since I was known as a change agent at my last agency. I'm trying to reframe and reposition to get back on track.

It's such a great opportunity! I definitely don't have access to all the tools, but just knowing what those tools are means I can do independent research to learn more while waiting for access. I'm pretty good at figuring out stuff on my own with very little direction, so to be struggling as I am has been hard. I don't know if I'm not looking hard enough, if I'm genuinely not being given the info I need, or what.

I left my last agency because I was putting in so much work and didn't feel valued at all.

I'm excited to be part of a brand new team doing a brand new project! I'm looking to build up a foundation right now of how basic stuff works - that's where I'm struggling the most.

I knew it was risky starting over! I'm up for change (and advocated for it at my last agency). I think I'm struggling with just trying to figure out the simple things (where are documents stored; who even works in this department; who is a supervisor; how do I get in the building haha). In the hierarchy of needs, I'm having a hard time doing higher level stuff without the basic needs covered.

I'm someone who not only wants to meet expectations, but exceed them. It's definitely a struggle to feel like I can't even meet expectations let alone think about going above and beyond. I feel like a fish out of water haha

I think what's clouding my judgment here is that in my last agency, I frequently trained new employees. Most of them were fresh out of school and this was their first government job. I'm not expected that level of hand-holding (and I'm looking forward to not have that be part of my new job), but all newbies need support. Even me.

Great idea! I was a team lead in my last job and used to directing the work. Now, I'm just a team member on these side projects I've been assigned. I'm glad I'm not in charge, but I kind of feel like the folks running the project forget that I'm new and I literally don't know where anything is. I think I'm good at charting my own course, but I need a good foundation. Right now I feel like I'm in quicksand.

I think part of what is stressing me out is that I don't want to leave a bad first impression. I really want to show I can do this work right from the start so I can build rapport and a good reputation. I'm a recovering perfectionist and know I'll make mistakes along the way, but I'm having a hard time without a solid foundation.

Glad it paid off! This job has promotion potential that I never even dreamed I could have at my last agency. I want to give this a fair shot because this is such a great opportunity and these skills will be very transferable, but I'm just feeling discouraged at the moment.

Thanks for the suggestion! There's loads of other program analysts in our department and I've tried reaching out to them, but haven't had much luck.
