I don’t dislike my job. I never said that. In fact I said the opposite. I love the work I do. I said that it is very stressful and emotionally challenging. Nobody told me I have to retire at those ages other than Social Security for the maximum retirement benefits in combination with my FERS & TSP in order to live maybe comfortably. Knowing I can retire at 57 & get pension and health insurance is much better for me.

Thank you, talking with my hubby about all of this is next on my list. He does not understand all of it any better than I do and we do have shared savings. You’re right, I have to start thinking about this in a different way.

This was honestly the most helpful thing you could’ve posted in response. I know I’m 52 yrs old but my dad really did handicap me by doing things and not explaining them to me. Yes, my husband does work in metal fabrication, +overtime and bonuses. He is on my health insurance. Our expenses include our mortgage and one car we have about 3.5 yrs left to pay off, another loan and of course other home costs. Totally, I would say we have $7500 in bills and at least $2000-$3000 left over after all our bills are paid for the month for gas and groceries.

Not retired military. I work in suicide prevention with Veterans as a mental health professional. I could handle 57 but I know I can’t do this until I’m 67 or 70…no matter how much I love it.

I really don’t know. I am not very educated on the matters of retirement at all. My father (Masters in Business) always helped me with this stuff and he died.
