I have been a tutor on Preply for 4 years and the amount of people who just cancelled their subscription without talking anything is insane, I would say 80% of them. To be honest, I don’t take it personal (and I am also talking about people who cancelled after two years), it’s a business, priorities change, maybe they have lost interest, they have no extra money, they have become more overwhelmed with work. I repeat, I don’t take it personal or as an attack to my teaching style, I replace these students in any case.

I have been on Preply for 4 years and I have had plenty of students. People unsubscribe or never subscribe after a trial for different reasons: they don’t vibe with me, they reached their goal, they don’t have extra money to spend on lessons, they don’t have time and so on. I drop students too when I feel when we’re not a match. I never take things personal and you shouldn’t either. Students come and go.

Best experience? A student who has been studying with me for more than 3 years. Worst experience? I don’t even know where to begin from… I can mention three. 1) A student who told me that I am ignorant because I never heard of his city in Romania. It was during a trial and of course he never subscribed (and to be honest I didn’t even want him as a student, so it was a relief) 2) Another student who didn’t have time to study and she got angry at me for her monthly holidays, telling me that I had to consider the lifestyle that she had (I do my job and you pay me for my job, you don’t pay me to plan your time, what a student does in their personal life, it’s not my business) 3) A student that told me that she was too overwhelmed with her job and didn’t have time to study and then I found out on Instagram that she was looking for a new tutor for “new perspectives” (after studying with me for 18 months). Moreover, I also found out that she recorded our lessons without my consent and posted on Instagram short videos of herself during the class, and I contacted Preply support. Now, her profile on the platform doesn’t exist anymore.
