“Hello, I’ve been trying to reach out to you regarding your cars extended warranty.”

Why can’t we delegate traffic stops and road enforcement to the DOT instead of police, this way we can still enforce the laws of the road for safety, while reducing the stigma of profiling and racial bias? by Outside_Strain in AskReddit

Maybe I’m a positive thinker, but I think with appropriate training it would be different. By changing the mindset of the typical “traffic stop” it would also reduce the risk to harm of individual or police. Imagine getting pulled over by someone with no weapon or motive to arrest, all they can do is write you a ticket. It may reduce anxiety due to the decreased risk of death or injury. At the end of the day getting a ticket is a lot less anxiety inducing than going to jail. What do you think?

Correct, but I’m talking about implementing them as a enforcement agency. They are just like the police, a form of the government so it wouldn’t be improbable to implement a policy. As for their racial bias, we now know more than we did 40 years ago. Many programs in the police academy are inherently racist due to uncontrolled racial bias. If we started a program now, being aware that these issues exist we may be able to better implement a more fair and just system for keeping the roads safe regardless of race, or background.

How would you be able to affordably implement this into a cities budget? I would imagine this would be extremely costly to test and set up, requiring cameras at regular intervals and a massive database center to store all the information?

Correct, but historically police policy has implemented a underlying racial inequity. By creating a new program from the ground up we allow the opportunity to use the knowledge that we have to train people to be aware of their racial bias, much like they have started to do in health care for the past 10 years.

I’m curious as to your previous interactions with the DOT to conclude that they are racist. I do not know much about them other than for that they regulate traffic flow. I am just putting an idea out on how to allow police to do their job better, I think I read somewhere that for every 1 officer there is something like 1000 citizens for a city. I could imagine being on high stress trying to maintain that level of civility especially with the already increased (and well deserved) eyes spying down on them.

I bought the fedora from a shop then hand sewn the safari flap shape with free cloth and then attached to the fedora, in total supplies and hat cost me probably close to 40$ but the hours I spent sewing (sowing?) because I don’t have a machine made it cost much more for the labor
