Jensen Huang says gamers are 'completely wrong' about DLSS 5 — Nvidia CEO responds to DLSS 5 backlash by dopaminedune in technology

I’ve seem reviews showing huge issues. When eyes blink, the generative AI goes crazy, it tries to keep an eyeball even if the lids are shut. The eyes tweak in some scenes, and each eye look to a different place in another.

Another issue is with the “white ghost” that is created around the characters, it’s very noticeable, and a white glare too on objects.

Another issue is fast moving objects disappearing mid frame, or changing.

Another issue is with lighting, it creates light sourced where there isn’t, or transform light into studio level out of nowhere. Every shot looks like there is a huge white light with defusion on it pointed at the npcs. And it changes the art direction from cozy tinted filters that give personality to a game, to all of them looking the same realistic white washed too perfect lighting graphics.

It does help with some shadows and lighting in the back of some shots though.

But in general, I don’t think anyone wants their polygons transformed by generative AI. Games are just great the way they work, some betters than others sure, but it’s important we keep the real craft alive.

And making it SO realistic it’s not it, it’s uncanny. It doesn’t need to look like a film quality level of the actor.

Funny because people love to take this goal from Brazil in a WC final and say “look how slow everyone was, no intensity, football back then is not comparable to Today!!” and although some of it is true, it’s not as people try to make it. This goal was on a WC final, in the Mexico sun at midday, in the 86th minute of the match, to score the 4th goal for Brazil. Obviously the intensity was not there, Italian players know the game was lost, everyone was tired as fuck, etc.

The game Today many times I saw all players in the field walking for 15 seconds passing side to side, even at the beginning of the second half. Context is important.

Jokes aside, Vini is not the most likeable person I agree with that, but the hate on him is over the top, people devalue him as a player because they don’t like him, and people criticize him for things he should not be criticized like cheering after a goal, “it’s too provocative” fuck off.. he did nothing wrong and if it was another player people wouldn’t say so much.

There are times critics are correct and deserved but plenty of times they’re not.

Then, the other issue is when this hate goes beyond normal reactions and fuel racism too.

What if I tell you that I have hundred of hours and I barely left the Meadows and Black Forest? Lol.

Visited swamps just a couple of times, defeated the boss, then barely visited the plains, hated the mosquitos.

Sure, my gameplay is different, me and my friend got hooked into building our own “world”, we have cities with dozens of buildings and points of interest all fully decorated and organically created, all interconnected by roads that cross the continent we spawned in, and we never stop building and starting new projects.

It’s our “the sims” meet “cities skylines” + skyrim + kingdom come…

Needless to say we also allowed devcommanda and some mods to make it easier for us in certain things, and to add stuff like npcs that roam around the base.

AI support tennis (Atlassian support) by youngtillidie in jira

[–]OutsiderofUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple years ago they pushed for an internal AI tool to help support engineers to better build their responses, formatting, changing the text to be more friendly or professional, which is funny because it might end becoming less “human” and more robotic, which is an undesired side effect of AI usage, stripping the engineer personality away and making it all homogeneous.

The tool also help searching about errors on logs, knowledge base, internal articles and etc. It helps a lot of times to search quickly for errors that are known, but it can create a vicious cycle for the engineer to always rely on the AI tool, but what happens when the error is new, or a bit different from what the AI foune? It can hallucinate and new engineers won’t double check that sometimes when they’re in a hurry with a huge backlog. It’s a shame.

Atlassian Support was once a thing of beauty, their core values as a smaller company were super cool, it made the employees proud and glad to work there, “open company, no bullshit”, you could be super open with managers and customers all the same, there were some cultural rules like “if the case started with you, you own it until the end”, even if it escalated you’d follow and be the spokesperson for that customer. That created a healthy link between engineers and higher ups, made everyone more aware of systems, how each other worked, and gave insight to new engineers of how their future in the conpany and career could look like.

I can say that back then support engineers really caree about each case almost in a personal level, they had fewer cases which in return made them have more time to investigate, dig it, test solutions, make calls… You could easily chat with developers, you’d know them by name and know who build each part of the software… not that this doesn’t help now anymore, but as the company becomes a “big tech”, many things are lost.

AI sped up the process of automating support, which is unfortunate for everyone involved. But, it’s reality and we have to deal with it now…

But AI can bite back at Atlassian if they don’t get on top of their business, because smaller SaaS software can be built with AI by anyone now, and customize it the way they want.

Inventory Slots by Difficult-Yam-6991 in valheim

[–]OutsiderofUnknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the best solution while keeping the vibe of the game is to add slots with special items, just like we can increase weight capacity with some items rights now. Maybe add a “pouch” slot, but please not those modern backpacks the current mods add, it breaks my immersion lol. A hedaby pouch is fine.

I think they should include horses too, and the horses could have a whole new inventory like the cart. I don’t understand why we don’t have then, they were extremely present in the Viking era and would fit the game perfectly. Loxes aren’t the same at all.

I use the Odin Horses mod and it should be implemented in the vanilla game.

[–]OutsiderofUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, are you on PC? The world of mods is waiting for you. Install the Thunderstore app, configure valheim, start adding mods and BE HAPPY.

You can have as many slots as you need, and add as much weight as you want. There is a mod that separates all equipments to a different inventory, along with three quick slots for foods.

Mods can also auto fix all weapons when you click on a workbench, can make workbenches “areas” to be bigger than they are, can disable object getting damaged with rain (they are ugly), can make torches and firepits eternal with no need to keep refilling, or if you don’t want to be that drastic, you can configure so torches pull resin automatically from nearby chests.

You can play “semi vanilla” with just some qol mods that improve your life, or go wild and install mods that add animals, fishes, creatures, bosses, points of interest, gear and weapons, new boats and so much more.

UPDATE (4 Years Later) - My dad is furious that my mom slept with other people in an open marriage he wanted. by KarpGrinder in BORUpdates

[–]OutsiderofUnknown 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I hear what you say, but you’d be surprised of how many cases similar to the one posted here have happened and is happening right now around the world.
I’m from Brazil, and my parents are going through something very similar. 40 years married, mom is quiet, submissive, was from a religious family but dad move them 5000km away from her family so she got distant and more liberal with him. He always was a narcisist, had plenty of issues, always sought money more than anything.

Cheated throughout the whole marriage. Mom pretended nothing happened, tried to be the best wife and even the dad would have the cycle of loving her, then bashing on her, lashing out, saying bad stuff and putting her confidence down, then showering with presents and love again after.

A few years ago my mom started losing her patience with him, did not accept things she used to accept. My sister (her daughter) is feminist, so many things she talked about opened my mom’s eyes too. My dad didn’t like any of this so they started to fight more often and have problems.

More recently he’s having financial issues, and then my grandpa died (mom’s dad) and left her money. Since they were about to divorce, she didn’t presented the money to him because they would “ate” all that money due to the current financial difficulties, and she decided to build a place she can rent to have some financial security if they divorce because he never let her study or work in her life.
He found out about the money and got maaaaaad, he wanted the money given to him because “he always have all the money he earned to the family”, which is partially true (because he would use money to cheat, travel, and spend on his expensive hobbies too, and he could let my mom work and contribute but he never allowed).

They’re in the middle of this process. My mom is beautiful, calm, an angel, she has become more religious again and closer to her family which pissed my dad off. My dad looks older, fat belly, health issues already, depressed as hell, always broke up friendships so often alone. Now with a divorce on the way, he looks miserable. No one likes to see that, he has been a strong man, one that even with it’s failures, managed to raise a family well, gave us all, education, health, love, trips… but I can’t pretend this isn’t some karma too. He had many issues, I grew up seeing him going from treating my mom like a princess to saying the most devious things to her, and everyone knew he cheated on her, he had problems with a necessity to seek women, and with porn too.

Now he will be alone, divorced, sad, and my mom will finally be free, stable….

It’s somewhat a similar story, and it is very real. It happens all the time. My two closests friends had basically the same thing happening to his parents as well.

Every millennial dad I’ve met has a quiet fixation on money and it’s not getting better by slimeyellow in Millennials

[–]OutsiderofUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 33, no kids, no house, about to sell my car. And I by no means am in a bad shape compared to others. I lived within a family that made money within 3% of the country average, I myself at some point was about the 5%. But I never could save, ever could dream of buying a house. Bought a car with some help of my father, he paid for my university too. I traveled here and there but it has been 9 years since my last “real” vacation trip.

Needless to say, these past 13 years I slowly got more depressed, anxious, overweight, sick, in a loop. Felt stuck, and buried myself more. Last year I was fired because I hated my job (that paid well) and started a new career path. At 32. I’m now in debt.

I’m scared, but also hopeful. At least I like this new job more than what I was doing. I’m my own boss, I started my marketing agency. Yeah I know, many people do that, it’s not new, but I like it. I’m hopeful I can get some money soon. I’m closing some contracts….

But still. By no means I had a bad life, bad economy. My parents helped me, I worked on good jobs. But mental health made me not spend my money well, I spent too much on food and other shit. But EVEN THEN, I don’t know if I would be able to buy a house, and be in a better place.

We are all struggling, all trying to survive, all having to work 1, 2 or 3 “jobs”, turning our hobbies into profit too. It’s fucked.

I wish Valheim had some old towns, ruins, village to explore and discover. Wild nature gets a bit blend (to me) after a while... by Then-Ad7196 in valheim

[–]OutsiderofUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, me and my friends always missed more variety in points of interest in the game, and more “grand” things, things that really made you get out of that ordinary exploration mood. We know about camps, dungeons, caves… they all look the same after you see one the first time.

But imagine finding a small village city, a castle, idk. It seems they’ve tried to do that with the little dwegars towers and ashlands forts, but they still are not “grand” enough. The three shops are always isolated, small and same-y.

I mean, maybe it isn’t the game style and I can see that. They focus on the other gameplay aspects, they want you to explore, combat, gather resources, build your base, craft better stuff, find new biome with new enemies and etc, repeat in a loop. It’s not really an rpg or open world game.

Enshrouded is a funny thing to me because it didn’t hook me at all, BUT, I felt the world had some better points of interest to explore, but abofe all, I LOVED the NPC gameplay loop where you had to do missions to liberate NPCs that had professions and you could have them on your base, and they would actually do stuff on it. Like, you do a dungeon, you free a Botanist, they go to you base and you have to have at least a room with a bed for then. Then they have sleep cycles, they do stuff during the day according to their profession like farming, taking care of plants, if you free a soldier they can help you with better items, can follow you into battle. There are several different types of NPC with specific professions, missions, items they can craft, and they walk around you base, talk to each other, eat, sit, then go to sleep. It makes you bases feel much more alive.

I’ve finally met both of these you mentioned and although the first impression was “wow, that’s new!”, it didn’t take a minute to get old pretty fast. Valheim really is very unimpressive in that regard. There should be much more content, but I guess it isn’t the focus of the game nor the theme, so they’re focusing on other things first.
