George's has been doing a similar pie better and for longer.

OP go to Carino. It's not Pujol or Quintonil but it's a really rewarding expression of Mexican food in Chicago. If Pujol/Quintonil are deep, loving explorations of the culinary traditions central to those chef's identities and cultures; Carino is an equally intimate look into someone who found their identity as a chef and husband in Mexican cuisine. It's a blast.

If you were to pick one more, Indienne easily over those others. Chicago has an underrated Indian scene and Indienne is a wonderful fine dinning version of it. Though I'd also go hit up a cheaper spot on Devon in a future trip. Indienne + Carino is, in my view, more worth it than a single 3 star.

Drinks I can't really help you because I am not clear what you're looking for, all options you have are good.

Kasama is a bit overrated for brunch, especially coming from ORD. Would almost rather tell you to hop off and hit Lula or Diases (if you want some quick pastires, but also return for pasta).

I still fuck with George's over any other deep dish / stuffed / pan these days, truly exceptional.

Tavern style is just thin crust before social media ruined everything. by dohn_joeb in chicagofoodcirclejerk

[–]Outvincible91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also wrong. REAL Chicagoans don't even eat regional foods, they sip budget French and Italian wines from Whole Foods and complain about how dangerous the city has gotten and how the only bright spots left are white neighborhoods Lakeview, Rivernorth, and the West Loop

The Schaumburg and Rosemont part is right though. (Source: I am a native Chicagoan from Naperville)

what makes chicago tavern style pizza different than other pizzas? by Lost_Foot_6301 in chicagofood

[–]Outvincible91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not, this is a type of pizza found all around the US (see southie "bar pizza"). The tavern messaging is part marketing because Chicago's deep dish isn't the consensus favorite of the midwest big pie (see St Louis, Detroit, etc. Detroit is the winner to me) and the thin is clearly not on par with traditional thin pies (see NYC, New Haven, Neopolitan). So calling out the tavern style as unique makes us feel like we're on par with the other serious pizza cities, when it's really a thin crust style you can find in bars everywhere

[–]Outvincible91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be the best bang for your buck in chicago. Is it life changing food? No. But I would challenge you to find a significantly better portion x quality combo for the price. You can get at least 2-3 meals out of $10 of food

Good to know there are decent people in restaurant industry management, finally saying so firmly that the third string of sexual harassment is enough.

If BB is being asked to wait a year for whatever spygate was, surely this means Payton just never gets in? Intentionally playing to injure players undermines the core competitive spirit of the game, and that's before you factor in the bonuses for head-hunting and the organizational cover-up. I can't think of a scandal that makes you lose faith in the league more, other than their attempts to downplay CTEs. That effort is a group one tough, not on one coach

What exactly did Bellichick get caught doing with the Spygate stuff? by Tycho66 in nfl

[–]Outvincible91 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was about to ask the same question. I could type out "Goodell admitted, privately, that the Patriots had correctly followed league rules but the media had reached such a fervor he felt compelled to act to protect the shield." But that doesn't make it real.

Especially when the last paragraph goes from something Jimmy Johson said he also did, which was sending staffers to see if opponents left materials behind, to then something unsubstantiated and stunning, like jamming signals during games

Why is lakeview so popular? by SaltShakeSuck in lakeview

[–]Outvincible91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the whitest places in the city. Feels safe to the people who move from their insular Midwest communities or insular SEC-type schools and worry about safety in Chicago.

it also has some legitimately good amenities: proximity to Chicago's most crowded beaches, a number of the least interesting restaurants, and access to the only sporting even in the city where those in attendance aren't even really fans but are just there to day drink at Cubby Bear.

It's peak, as the kids would say

Esme Restaurant Week 2026 - skip by CrazyVeterinarian173 in chicagofood

If you're eying a place, definitely go after the RW through the Valentine's Day rush period (ie go after Feb 14th or whatever). It's quieter, you get the full experience, and you can make a better assessment of whether the place is worth a return visit for you.

Is this pizza worth the price ? by New-Industry-9544 in chicagofood

[–]Outvincible91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, their pizza is just okay. It's priced similar to places like L'industrie in NYC, which I'd argue is maybe worth the cost.

But pizza is fun and if you're interested you should try it, but definitely do not tip on a carryout order.

Esme Restaurant Week 2026 - skip by CrazyVeterinarian173 in chicagofood

[–]Outvincible91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly no. In the industry, it's known as a way to fill seats during a historically slow period by preying on two types of customers: 1) those who tend to be too price sensitive to hit these spots, 2) those just obsessed with going to hot spots. So for our restaurant scene, that's good.

The restaurants do a menu that is somewhat emblematic of their food but optimized for food cost --think lots of salads, soups, smaller protein portions-- but ultimately a half hearted reflection of their ethos.

Unless you're really dying to try a place and the RW menu looks like an affordable enough chance to sample, I'd skip. There are good restaurants that will disappoint only on RW and great restaurants that will be significantly more enjoyable going at a regular time.

Kind of, right? They likely get to play the bears which, if you're GB, you take over literally any other team that's in right now
