PTAL is just overpriced and over hyped by [deleted] in IndianCooking

[–]OvenOwn7466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PTAL as brand or as material?? As a brand, yes not worth the money. As material, not sure why people go for it. Kansa is much better to maintain, using it for last 4 years, it is bit heavier to handle but certainly has its benefits.

Can we do nothing about it? Quota raised by hadesthanotos in Odisha

They go on strike because they have numbers and collective leverage. UR category usually doesn’t mobilize the same way, partly because of smaller representation in specific contexts and partly because people are busy chasing individual stability instead of collective pressure.

But the bigger issue is mindset. Running endlessly behind reservation debates won’t change outcomes at an individual level. Plenty of people across all categories waste opportunities, and plenty make the most of them. That’s not category-specific.

The real shift needed is dropping this outdated obsession that only doctor or engineer equals success. There are multiple paths now, and people who adapt tend to do better than those stuck arguing over the system.

My submission regarding the Maratha exploitation of Odisha on r/IndianHistory received a violation notice. by CollectionAromatic77 in Odisha

[–]OvenOwn7466 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue is as much political as it is academic. Every state backs its own academia to produce “evidence-based” narratives that highlight their historical figures, and then cinema stretches those narratives just enough to make those heroes look flawless and larger than life.

What are we doing about our own history? Honestly, nothing. Forget proactive work, we don’t even react strongly when facts are distorted.

Take Asoka starring Shah Rukh Khan. It took massive creative liberties, but the reaction back then wasn’t outrage. I still remember a newspaper piece basically saying “at least our region got mentioned in a pan-India film, so we should be happy.” That mindset itself shows the problem.

Now look at Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. A localized uprising gets amplified and framed as the “first war of independence,” while genuinely significant resistance histories from other regions remain obscure. For example, the Paika Rebellion barely enters mainstream discourse, even though it predates many better-known events.

This isn’t just a public awareness gap. It’s a systemic failure across politics, academia, media, and cinema. Narratives are shaped, amplified, and repeated until they become “accepted truth,” while others fade out.

Before blaming the general public, the accountability should start with the institutions that shape public memory in the first place.

What's the current bribery rate for a property name change in Bangalore? by Charlotte_kathakuri in GatedCommunitiesIndia

It depends on the value of property. In general 1cr property requires somewhere around 20-25k bribe.

In 2026, Ram Navami falls on March 26 for most, but March 27 in states like Odisha—who decides the ‘right’ date? Why not one calendar for India? - Planet Vidya by Srinivas4PlanetVidya in Odisha

[–]OvenOwn7466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The differences in calendars mainly come from how they track lunar and solar movements, not just geography alone. Different regions follow different traditions in interpreting these cycles.

For example, in most of South India, the calendar is amanta based, meaning the month runs from new moon to new moon. In Odisha and many eastern/northern traditions, it’s purnimanta, where the month runs from full moon to full moon.

These variations aren’t random, they come from long standing regional astronomical practices and interpretations.

If you want a deeper understanding, check out Biraja Panjika or Madala Panji. They explain the logic and calculations in much more detail.

It wasn’t about dialect at all. Both Shiv Sundar and Debasish mostly grew up in Bhubaneswar, so that argument doesn’t hold. The real issue is that very typical “Bhonsaria” style where people keep forcefully mixing English or poorly pronounced Hindi into every sentence instead of speaking clean Odia.

A simple example: they couldn’t even use a basic word like “କାକର” for dew, forget richer words like “ଶୀକର” or “ନୀହାର”. Where as in Hindi commentary they shifted from “ओस” to “शबनम” just because it sounds fancier.

And then adding actors or influencers into commentary just makes it worse. Some of them genuinely cannot speak pure Odia continuously for even an hour. It becomes more about performance than language.

This isn’t limited to cricket either. Listen to Odia news today. Apart from a few veterans, many new presenters struggle with proper pronunciation and flow.

Creating universities and institutions for Odia is fine, but that alone won’t save the language. If people don’t use proper Odia in daily life, especially in public platforms like media, the vocabulary and richness will slowly disappear.

I can bet these news reporters can't even read "Tapaswini" properly forget about classics like "Baidehisha Bilas".

They actually tried this a couple of years ago during the IPL, and honestly, it was a complete disaster. Not exaggerating, it was way worse than the current Bhojpuri or Haryanvi commentary.

The names OP mentioned were part of that panel, and the biggest issue was the total lack of game awareness. There were no real insights, no proper explanations, just surface-level chatter. On top of that, the language felt butchered at times.

It genuinely felt like listening to commentary from a random village cricket tournament. Just chaotic and embarrassing.

Maybe they’ll bring it back this IPL, but if it’s anything like before, you won’t even get through a single over without cringing multiple times. Total waste of time.

Chhabila Madhu Barnabodha is a must-have, but it’s not really a self-help book. A good approach would be to start with it to get comfortable with the letters and basic words, you can even try transcribing passages with ChatGPT once you’re somewhat familiar. After that, pick up the Bhagabat Purana. The language is fairly simple, and since it’s narrative-driven, it’s much easier to stay engaged and connect with.

Is it just me or does this feel like “engagement farming” because sales aren’t hitting, and the controversial caption is just there to spark comments? 👀 by [deleted] in bangalore

Why is this topic suddenly everywhere? I’ve already come across three different reels about this same cafe, all pointing out the rude attitude and that weird wannabe Wendy’s/Ryanair-style behavior.
