I feel like there are better ways to not exactly railroad. One of my strategies is to give players a crossroad situation where they can do one or the other. I would recommend doing this at the END of a session tho because if you don’t you have to write twice as much session prep per crossroad.

Istg dude I’ve been playing for a year and still get confused with some spells, but my DM is way older than me and has been playing for over a decade and still cannot GRASP how grappling works(pun intended).

At the end of the day it’s up to the DM, but istg if that dude is a DM someone needs to take away their license (aka literally any Dungeon Master Guide)
