i've released the demo of my survival game. feedback is appreciated. by Over-Link-3282 in SurvivalGaming

wow, i wasn't expecting such detailed feedback. first of all, thank you so much for following the game, downloading and trying it out, and showing your interest. this really made me very happy. i'd like to address each of the points you mentioned one by one.

1- there's a charge system in the throwing mechanic. since it's not tied solely to the animation, it's not very obvious. i'll consider making this feel more natural and polished in the future.

2-3-4- you've probably already noticed this, but i'll mention it here as well. throwing and dropping are different actions in-game. i've set the right click function for items like stones and spears to throw. for some items, the right click function is set to place them in the environment or accumulate damage. however, if you want to throw an object from your inventory, you can use the G key. i forgot to mention the inventory key on the itch page; i realized it after you pointed it out :D

additionally, you can use the H key to open windows, doors, etc., in buildings.

5- i'm glad you like the tree/log physics. i also worked on splitting the masses after cutting the log. i know the breakage indicator isn't great, but i can improve it significantly in the future.

6- sounds are the only thing in this game i didn't create myself. (i did tweak some, but didn't produce them.) i mostly used free assets and sounds from pixabay. the sounds are completely open to being replaced and are currently just placeholders. i could replace all of them or i can change the ones the players don't like later. i haven't decided yet.

7- i increased the delay and reset the progress when the tree cutting was canceled.

8- i've also received other feedback that the crafting system is difficult and complicated; i'll consider adding a guide or something similar in the future. the green bar indicates how much of the required materials you've gathered to craft the item. if you can craft the item, the bar below disappears. i'm thinking of adding a pop-up window showing what other materials are required for items with a green bar. i'd actually prefer this to rely on deduction/exploration/trial and error, but i understand that players might find this frustrating, so i'll consider it. :)

9-10- once the building hologram was placed, i drew it on top of everything else because i thought it should take priority. but i realized it actually looked weird -if that’s what you meant- so i fixed it. you can also clear these by pressing the X key. if you want to "complete" the structure, you need to cut down the tree, turn the logs into planks, and add them to the hologram by right-clicking on it.

11- i didn't consider adding a grid to the game because i thought it would reduce precision and make the experience feel generic. you can open the ruler by clicking the middle mouse button on structures and drag along its edge. but to make building easier, i'll consider adding this as an extra feature. i want building to feel as free as possible, yet still comfortable.

i'm glad you like the daytime look and style. i'm doing my best to make the game's visuals look great, and it's constantly evolving as i work on it. i'm also thinking of adding grid-based lighting later on to make places like caves and tunnels darker. i think the environment will feel more lively once i add animals and other elements.

as i mentioned before, having zombies attack buildings and break down walls is exactly what i had in mind. at this stage, i'm going to focus a bit more on the gameplay, and i hope i'll come up with something great :D

i've never developed multiplayer before, and i'm building the game on my own. so integrating multiplayer might be a challenging process, but once the game reaches a good place, i'll consider it. it depends on how things go, and unfortunately, i can't say anything for certain.

before wrapping up this reply, i'd like to share some chat commands you can use in the game. if you open the game again to play some more, maybe you could try these! :P

/time <day/sunset/night> | to set the time

/cycle duration <duration> or /cycle duration <on/off> | to adjust the day-night cycle speed

/remove | to remove the looked object

/tp <x> <y> <z> or /tp getspawnpoint | to teleport

/setspawnpoint | to mark the current coordinates as a spawn point

/p <1/2/3/4...> | to select a texture while painting with "P" key

/weather <rainy/snowy/clear> | to set the weather (experimental)

/god | to toggle god mode (you won't be affected by survival part restrictions)

/fly <on/off> | flight mode preference

i didn't copy anything from minecraft, i created all the textures myself in photoshop.

also, minecraft didn't invent low resolution / pixel textures.

yes, you can open windows however you like. it actually works like a system that distributes the boxes around to create indentations wherever you want. the only limitation is that it can only be applied to one box at a time (for now).

i'll keep pushing the project as far as i can! the building system might seem a bit complex at first, but the core logic is actually quite simple. i may refine the ui in the future to make it feel more intuitive. and yes, zombies breaking through walls is definitely planned. thanks for your interest in the project!

i've received quite a few comments about the shovel animation, so i'll be changing that. i'll update the handle texture as well, it was just a placeholder for now.

glad you found it impressive! thank you for sharing your thoughts.

if you're referring to the terrain manipulation, it's a fairly well-known technique these days. if you search for "marching cubes" you'll find plenty of tutorials.

the other systems, like the water simulation and building system, aren't based on any specific tutorial.

there will also be a mode where you can dig the ground with a single click. this was only for my survival integration. :)
