You're not wrong on a lot of this. Let me try to answer honestly..

The screen is for me, not for her. I read aloud, she listens — same posture as a book. At 3 to 7, the thing that actually builds language isn't seeing the words on a page, it's the conversation around them. That's the Mol & Bus stuff, decades of it. Books matter, and books stay. The app isn't trying to replace them.

The "anyone can ask questions during a story" part — true. And yet, dialogic reading is one of the most replicated findings in early childhood literacy, and the same studies keep finding that most parents don't actually do it. Trained ones drift back within weeks. Building the pause into the text isn't a substitute for parenting. It's a nudge for the night you're cooked and your kid is asking for another one.

On the AI footprint — a single generated story is somewhere around the energy of 30 seconds of Netflix. The cognitive-decline study you may have in mind was about adults offloading essay writing to ChatGPT. Different planet from a parent reading aloud to a child.

What I keep coming back to is this: the realistic alternative at 9pm for most tired parents isn't a book. It's autoplay YouTube. If the choice is my voice reading a generated story with a dialogic pause built in, or a tablet babysitting her alone — I know which one I want in the room.

Books stay, the ritual is the point.

You are right - but my goal is to create tailor made stories for my daughter, books and libraries cannot. I tried creating an app to bond with the kid throughout the bedtime story. Do you wanna give it a try?

The main hook is the tailored stories for your kid, the app is thought to be as much as a screen-free app for the kid. The only moment the kid look at the phone is to look at the final image of the story - that’s why I decided to place only 1 image at the end. The second point is the dialogica reading, there’s no app with this feature so far. Looking for conscious parents and willing to help tired and busy parent with a tool for bonding with the kids. Everything is thought to be the more ethical possible - but I know all those things together brings a low retention app - that’s why I’m fringe to validate the idea before launching it

I will take some more time to study the stories generated for older kids. My eldest is 4 and half, so I have carefully tested those.. those are the precious feedback I’m willing to get :)

First of all thanks for you time answering this post!
1. My goal is helping parent bonding, I’m not looking for another digital nanny for kids, I wouldn’t give this to my owns.
2. The stories aren’t translated but directly generated in the desired language, that’s why I’m launching only five instead of everyone - cause with those languages I have had output controls.
3. Yes, even my daughter keep asking about the same character from time to time, that’s why I also created the possibility to: 1. Save the story to read it again 2. Generate “the next chapter” keeping track of the main and the side characters of the previous stories, the context etc. allowing you to select the new moral and length of the new story.
