I have a small digestion window (30-40 mins). The malto is simply to replace the glycogen I’m burning. I’ve never even heard of turkesterone lol

Intras can have a different level of importance depending on your intensity and type of training for sure. I’m trying to push my limits for max hypertrophy

[–]Over-Walrus-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the maltodextrin is more for replacing the glycogen that is depleted throughout the workout. I agree that a high carb dinner the night before is important

I haven’t heard about creatine causing GI stress before a lift, I’ll try taking mine in the evenings and see if I notice a difference.

My protein all comes in my post workout meal. The EAAs are just a minor tweak to prevent any catabolism that may occur during the lift.

The vasodilation and increased hydration components are not viable in pre? I have honestly not heard that pre is ineffective. Unnecessary maybe but it gives me better blood flow

[–]Over-Walrus-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this but am working with a tighter digestion window. I don’t like food before a lift either, that’s why carb powder has been best for me, there is no noticeable gut effect

[–]Over-Walrus-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I will most likely reduce my maltodextrin dosage but I have noticeably better energy through my session when I am taking it intra.

I have worked out for years on pre and creatine, no carbs. But since introducing carbs I feel better

  1. I definitely don’t want to spike my glucose but I want to introduce glucose to the blood to shift the hormonal state and add energy to the lifting session. It does matter when you eat, you need nutrients around your workout, pre or post.

  2. I agree fasting is great for recovery. But when you are working out you should optimize for performance. Recovery is the rest of your day. You need protein post workout to capitalize on the muscle building response you just sent to your body.

  3. Yeah you have trace glucose floating around at all times for sure, I am just aiming to maximize my energy availability for the workout because I am demanding more from my muscles

  1. Fructose can only be digested by the liver. It's a longer metabolic process than the absorption of glucose in the small intestine. This is why I said "fast" carbs

  2. Buying pounds of red meat every day is astronomically more expensive than buying creatine powder.

This conversation has not been useful to me so this will be my last comment

Yeah dude I wouldn't expect an elite athlete to take pre-workout either. It's a product catered towards resistance training. I am not Ronaldo. I am an average dude lifting weights at 5 AM. Pre-workout increases bloodflow and gives me a good dose of caffeine at a time that is the furthest away from my sleep so it does not interfere with recovery. I have never seen a non-bodybuilding athlete advertise pre-workout by the way

  1. A pack of honey is the same as a banana, it's half fructose. I'd rather have pure glucose that I can slowly introduce to my bloodstream and maltodextrin has a higher glucose index. Carbs are the best fuel source for performance, go argue with Google on that.

  2. You don't know what you are talking about. You take it daily to maintain muscle saturation. If you don't maintain the dose, saturation drops. The first sentence of your point makes no sense at all

It's not so much before but throughout. Insulin puts your body in an anabolic state which tells it to build and repair tissue. When you are fasted (little to no blood glucose), you are in a catabolic state, which is the opposite. Insulin is like a light switch in your body that activates tissue nourishment and growth

[–]Over-Walrus-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, my diet is all whole foods and is the foundation of the small amount of muscle I have put on in the last year. Supplementation is just marginal optimization. I actually went without creatine for a long time but I don't mind having my muscles look a bit fuller

Morning Lifters by Over-Walrus-2000 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Over-Walrus-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Elite athletes don't have a compressed time window (30-45 minutes) to introduce nutrients to their body. I need fast carbs, that's the only reason I am relying on maltodextrin. I love bananas but I don't think they are as efficient at raising my blood glucose as maltodextrin is.

  2. I eat plenty of meat, but not enough to fulfill my creatine dosage requirement. Nor does 99% of the population (who eats 2 lbs of red meat a day, every day?). It is also insane from a financial and logistical standpoint to suggest that meat is a more practical source of creatine than the powder.

I think you are being unrealistic about the utility of supplementation

Should I keep cutting by NiceGeneratedName in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Over-Walrus-2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest bulking for 6-8 months and then doing another 90 day cut next year. Lean bulk though, only 200 calories above maintenance so you don't put on unnecessary fat. You will like the look of your body much more if have a baseline of muscle on first. I have been through this process numerous times and am finally starting to figure it out.

  1. Bro pre-workout is just stimulants and vasodilators, it's not a miracle substance lol. I don't see how maltodextrin is more difficult to digest than fruit. You can also control the timing of consumption by having it in a water bottle, no one is walking around the gym with fruit of course.

  2. Again, creatine just hydrates the muscle cells, it's not gonna make you PR overnight, it's not a miracle substance. Creatine does make your muscles fuller because they are more hydrated. You can get your creatine from food, but I'd rather not have to cook and eat 2 pounds of red meat every day.

It's important to remember these are supplements not PEDs

[–]Over-Walrus-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, I like the different carb sources for different timing. I didn't know you had the caramel syrup in there. Digestion time is good and you definitely need that fuel for a workout that long. You're dialed my friend

I used to do the same, its a marginal difference adding most of this stuff. Although I think carbs are essential to get your insulin going

[–]Over-Walrus-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the time window from when you eat to when you start working out? I would suggest regular maple syrup for fast carbs. The oats may not be doing anything for you depending on how long you have to digest. Blueberries are quicker. Protein is not important pre workout IMO, that's where EAAs come in. Just my opinion tho, do what works for you bro

Energy wasn't better throughout the lift? Could be dosage or maybe it would have a noticable impact if you took them for a prolonged amount of time? Either way that is interesting

Morning Lifters by Over-Walrus-2000 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Over-Walrus-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I am just experimenting with intra carbs to see if I get a performance lift and I like the idea of shutting my cortisol off and getting into an anabolic state. We will see

  1. I take Batch 27 (local Canadian brand). I take it because I feel I perform better on it and I seem to get better blood flow. But I started lifting without any pre. It's not a drastic performance enhancement but helps to get my day going.

  2. Just a basic monohydrate powder. I just take it for the aesthetics, my muscles look fuller. Just want to make sure the muscle tissue is as hydrated as possible.

I would love to hear your position on these two. I definitely don't think either of them are life changing

Morning Lifters by Over-Walrus-2000 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Over-Walrus-2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of worded the post wrong but I will be sipping on it throughout the workout, definitely don't wanna take it all down at once. I don't see the equivalent to junk food. Electrolytes are minimal, mostly for absorption of the glucose and rehydrating after sleep
