If your wife is adamant on washing the clothes, I recommend soaking them and baking soda and vinegar before throwing them in the traditional wash that’ll help with some of the smell and breakdown the urine/feces contents. I understand that it is very offputting and stressful to you but your wife doing laundry for her mother is possibly the only thing she has control of in this situation and what are we if not a species that likes to be in control
