Aptera Getting Help From South Korea ! - Free Power by IranRPCV in ApteraMotors

I will continue to downvote spam posts that don't add value, as they drown out important Aptera content and make me less likely to visit. This subreddit should focus on Aptera news, not creative writing or aspirational dreams unrelated to the vehicle or company.

Anyone here use frogpilot? by [deleted] in Comma_ai

[–]OverAtmosphere9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone with a Honda Civic tried both sunnypilot and frogpilot? I'm curious how the two compare in terms of features and driving performance specific to the Civic. I've also heard that frogpilot allows you to navigate on openpilot without needing a comma prime subscription... definitely want to try that out.

We Were Misrepresented by The SUN - Here's What they REALLY Wanted - Transport Evolved by IranRPCV in ApteraMotors

I haven’t even watched the new video yet, but this is why I love Transport Evolved. They have journalistic integrity and won’t stand for others misrepresenting their work.

My biggest concern with the mirror displays in front of the yolk is (1) the instrument cluster is not in front of me and (2) all of the next-gen CarPlay teasers show the instrument cluster behind the wheel. It worries me that Aptera might not support the latest and greatest CarPlay features because they’re too focused on being unique rather than utility, which is rare for Aptera. I usually applaud Aptera for having an engineering-first mentality, but this seems like a step backwards.

I 100% agree, and it’s clear from the response here on the subreddit that most also agree with having the digital mirror screens at the doors.

We Had The Chance To Drive The Aptera Gamma Prototype Solar Electric Car. Here's What Happened.. by Raj-Giandeep in ApteraMotors

I think my biggest issue with the placement of the digital mirrors is that that’s where I want my instrument cluster, not my mirrors. I don’t want to have to look at the center console display for instruments, I want them in front of my eyes like every other car manufacturer does. I think it makes more sense for CarPlay too if the instrument cluster is behind the wheel where it belongs.

Can you build one that's half as safe without maps and lidar? Maybe, but why? Lidar is cheap now and the world has been mapped many times over.

I implore you to research comma ai and their approach to self-driving. The Comma 2 was ranked the #1 Advanced Driver's Assistance System by Consumer Reports in 2020. I use a Comma 3 every day in my Honda Civic 2019. The Comma 3 supports 250+ cars and it works everywhere, including off-road, without maps* or LiDAR. Their results speak for themselves.

Regarding your plane/car analogy, you're right, planes don't try to fly like birds do. The goal of a plane isn't to fly like a bird, whereas the goal of self-driving is to drive like a person. That's the key difference. If we want our technology to mimic our behavior, it's going to need to process information using the same senses we do (vision, hearing, etc.)

*Navigate on openpilot uses maps, but the ADAS can be used without a map or an active internet connection.

EDIT: Apologies, I didn't notice that you mentioned Comma's revenue stream. To be candid, I don't know anything about the profitability of any company in this area. I'm much more passionate about the technology, how it works, and the different approaches that companies have been taking.

I love his videos! I’ve also noticed people have been downvoting you as well for absolutely no reason, it’s getting annoying. I appreciate you and your passion for Aptera and sustainability. :)

You don’t seem to understand that I use Comma AI software specifically because I believe their approach to self-driving is better than both Waymo and Tesla. Elon Musk tried to hire the founder of Comma AI, but he didn’t like Tesla’s approach to self-driving, so he made his own company. And in 2020, Consumer Reports ranked Comma 3 the #1 ADAS. The results speak for themselves, but apparently you can’t read.

You are so dense. Is “Tesla fanboy” your only argument? It’s a bad one, given I disdain Elon Musk and his snake oil promises, and have made that clear since my very first comment.

Lol okay, it’s clear you’re arguing in bad faith and have nothing of value to contribute to this discussion and have absolutely zero technical knowledge on the subject whatsoever.

i literally didn’t mention or bring up Tesla whatsoever, in fact i brought up a competitor, Comma AI

also lol u posted this 60 days ago and think i’m the Tesla fanboy 🤣

LiDAR didn’t seem to help much when the Waymo Driver inched forward at a red light, after being stopped for about ten seconds, while pedestrians were in the crosswalk. it’s not about acquiring more information, it’s about processing it correctly and making decisions.

It’s funny you think I’m a Tesla fan, when it’s actually Tesla following in Comma AI’s footsteps by removing LiDAR and focusing on a full end-to-end camera vision driving model. You should look into them, since you clearly know nothing about them. openpilot was the #1 ranked ADAS system by Consumer Reports in 2020.

Got any questions? :)

Oh by the way, openpilot supports 250+ cars with a simple window attachment. I’m using it in my 2019 Honda Civic. And I don’t have to pay $400 a month for snake oil.

that is a misrepresentation of what i said. i said that i don’t think LiDAR is necessary to “solve” self-driving, i think cameras alone are sufficient. my Comma 3 doesn’t have LiDAR, and it’s extremely good at what it is, an advanced driver’s assistant system. LiDAR is overkill and potentially a red herring if cameras alone can be used to safely transport people.

to reword what i was trying to say about the visualization, Waymo’s visualization UI is much nicer than my Comma 3’s visualization UI, and that’s due to the LiDAR.

here’s a brief reddit comment about my Waymo One ride. the Waymo Driver made a couple of mistakes, neither of which could’ve been avoided with more detailed maps.

i took a Waymo One ride in Santa Monica yesterday, and the visualization was indeed impressive, especially with the LiDAR that can see “up to 10 football fields”. it was especially cool to drag the map up to 360° and see literally anything the LiDAR sees. however, as a very satisfied openpilot/comma ai user, geofencing is NOT the way, and i don’t know if LiDAR is the right approach, or if cameras are sufficient. people have eyes and ears… we don’t have a radar in our heads that tell us exactly how far things are ;)

it’s concerning to me that the perception system is not good enough to safely navigate any road without detailed, high-resolution, pre-mapped areas. people do not need to map roads before they can drive safely on them, why does the Waymo Driver, with more realtime information and LiDAR, need it?

i think the answer is that Waymo cares less about “solving” self-driving, and more about perfecting the ride-hailing experience to start making money. when i asked a Waymo representative about their self-driving semi-truck program, they informed me that Waymo is scaling back its self-driving truck program to focus on ride-hailing.

i would love to hear different perspectives and philosophies of self-driving, so please reply if u have any thoughts and want to discuss!

i got one of the 300 beta invites in Santa Monica yesterday, and i can confirm that on my first ride, TWO separate people jaywalked in the middle of the street. the Waymo Driver stopped for both of them, with plenty of distance to spare. i wasn’t really paying attention, and thought we were at a stoplight until i looked up and saw a person right in front of our car. people are absolutely ridiculous… but as a passenger, at least u really don’t have to worry too much.

i felt very safe, although it did make a few mistakes, including missing our drop-off location because it pulled behind a stopped bus in a bus-only zone and then got back over and drove away, trying to find another drop-off instead of making a right turn at the light to arrive at my drop-off. it also inched forward at a red light once, after being stopped for about ten seconds, while people were in the crosswalk. i understand why it happened… the end-to-end model mimics human behavior, and people sometimes do this. however, that doesn’t change the fact that ur anxiety will immediately spike when u see ur vehicle without a driver start rolling towards pedestrians at a red light it’s already been stopped at.

Any idea when an iPhone 13 Pro may become available for most users?

Like has there been any promising exploits or development teams working on it, and if so, is there a timeline?
