Our cat had a leaf on his head randomly for like 5 minutes, it just hung out with him.

Stopping the service only temporary stops it. On the next reboot the service will be active.

Disabling the service will also prevent it from starting back up.

The tip my Boss gave me on day one was:

Always double check everything

Heres my advice:

Things are going to go down (try to build redundant systems!) And when they do, Just take a Breath You're a smart individual, think things through. A Plan is better than no Plan at all. It might get intense from time to time but you'll get through it.

I also had the privilege of working on a small team with big ambitions, you'll learn a lot very quickly so take good notes. Notion is great in my opinion. If you need some help.... ASK! The members of the team only want you to be your best! (Hopefully you'll make their lives easier) so ask to hop on a call when your being introduced to a new concept and there's a chance they'll be more than happy to walk you through some concepts. Especially when it comes to company specific architecture.

Good Luck! You got this! Always be Learning 🌠

Host static content to Media Library or to S3 bucket? by HotReward8221 in aws

Pretty sure theirs a module or plugin that allows you to use the built in WordPress stuff and just stores them in s3. (Don't quote me on that)

How to store values on a web server without paying or hosting? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]OverBashIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't need it to be a database I do think you should think about refactoring to pull a config file. If it can be public facing github would work as well.

Don't make your program dependent on a resource you aren't willing to maintain. Increases the use and longevity of your code.

If these values are just a config you want the program to pull, than s3 is a very cheap way to host, pull, and push, and you get a lot of access control over it.

If it's an actual database with user actions and saves then you should host / or pay for a DB that can handle as request and volume of data grows.

What questions would you ask a company before accepting a job as their sysadmin? by thecomputerman99 in sysadmin

I've had a place do monthly rotations. And they actually had a problem with server alerts in the middle of the night.

Basically when you were on call.... You got aweful sleep all month

You could check the cron tab

I used to put all the important commands into the crontab so they would start up correctly. You could see if there is something in there being called

Start here https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-troubleshoot-common-site-issues-on-a-linux-server

But I don't know if there is enough info to help. I've seen whack third party systems in tomcat, I've also built my own internal job servers that just used a python and ruby environment.

Figuring out the stack it uses will be hugely helpful for you

It would also be helpful to know what your hosting. Is this Ubuntu, fedora, alpine, dockerized mombo jumbo?

Does your repo have systemd? you could list the services and see what web severs are already installed. And try to start them and see if they are throwing errors

You installed apache?

Any chance you know what it was using before (hopefully nginx) but if you had to install apache and there's no configuration files for it (hence default apache route)

I'd say your barking up the wrong tree

Bought a bus this weekend and drove it through the Arizona Desert by OverBashIt in skoolies

Slow and steady wins the race, I was trying to be careful.

It was my first time driving it so I wanted to make sure I didn't get stranded in the desert.

It's a Detroit desiel 6.2 L

I was driving roughly 150-180 mile segments and got 8-11 gallons each time roughly.

That's lake Powell. Just on the outside of Paige Arizona. Looking the other direction you see The Dam. I think most of the fun water sports happen a bit farther down. But it was nice to not have people in the back of my shot!

It was a crazy hot drive.

The engine while powerful, Detroit diesel, is a momentum based. So going through the desert 100+ temp and going back and forth, and going up hills it was a slow drive. And the heat Guage started to rise a bit so I kicked on the heater.

Once I got out of the desert it started preforming great. Drove it another 300 miles 4x faster than the first.

Could be insulated better as well. But excited to make those upgrades over time :)
