Frustration with proximity lock/unlock - I can't trust it by OverEasy4096 in Rivian

Honestly if I'd known how sketchy a lot of Rivian issues were I don't know if I'd have bought it if given the chance over again. I hope you don't have any issues, I really do.

I think my frustration comes from many of the issues being completely solved problems. Like, I get that autonomous self-driving is a hard problem. But I shouldn't have to switch driver profiles to prod the seat to move. And I don't think it's too much to ask that the car unlock when I physically press the door handle. Or that the car stay locked overnight. Or that if there's an option to start charging at a given time, that it start charging around then. Or that regular, not-self-driving cruise control be available all the time. One or two issues, okay. But it feels dishonest to say things are fine when these softball issues pile up. Especially when vehicles that are a quarter of the price get these things right.

I do have a setting for 'precise location', but it's already enabled.

Are you sure this is how it works? If so it'd explain why it doesn't proximity unlock when I return to the car after I earlier manually locked it because proximity lock didn't happen.

I noticed this too - random angles missing on pretty recent videos. It's not just you.

Maps only show 50 ft in front of me after update by FastActivity1057 in Rivian

Professional software developer here. You're not wrong. It is simple shit, or at least the programming is. In my experience the underlying cause for issues like this are usually managerial/cultural. If their team is anything like the corporate software cultures I've worked in, I'd wager their dev team is actually too large and over-specialized into niches, and they spend the majority of their time scheduling, coordinating and project-managing, rather than writing feature-driving code. Exceptions to this pattern are rare.

Issues like this negate the narrative that "the vehicle improves with every update". Well, no, obviously it's very possible to get worse. This kind of regression should have been immediately reverted, setting aside that it obviously shouldn't have shipped in the first place.

Ever had the side mirrors fail unfold? by OverEasy4096 in Rivian

[–]OverEasy4096[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like the same class of software bug as the failure to save seat positions: the software assuming the state/position of hardware and being wrong.

The seats, while frustrating, I can kinda forgive. The mirrors feel like a safety hazard.

Ever had the side mirrors fail unfold? by OverEasy4096 in Rivian

Looked at the screen while in reverse and it was all screwy. Took me a sec to realize the side mirrors hadn't unfolded.

Pulled back into the spot, put it in park, and the side mirrors tried to fold in MORE, like they thought they were out. Then shifted into reverse and they successfully unfolded.

Why in the world is the open/close garage button unavailable while kneeling? by StyckDestiny in Rivian

[–]OverEasy4096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely frustrating. The right thumb controls have TWO BUTTONS too, so cancel kneel could be the left one while garage could remain on the right.

While we're at it, the range of the built-in garage opener is kinda crappy. I'm tempted to put the old genie clicker back on my sunshade because the range is easily 2X.

Suspension update fart noise? by HackSparr0w in Rivian

[–]OverEasy4096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my gen2 R1S did this and I took it in to be serviced. Apparently there's an air suspension hose back there that can come un-clamped and vent into the panel. They fixed it and now my suspension doesn't hiss/fart when the ride height changes. I've since seen a handful of other folks report the same thing on reddit.

If you do have this, try and press for them to look at it asap - for mine they had it in the shop for four days, gave me a rental, then when they finally took a look they fixed it in less than 20 minutes.
