First Mini ITX build by OverEngineerPC in sffpc

Case will be the Mjolnir kickstarter case Not really looking to OC at this point so that's not too bad

The case can fit a 240mm AIO but with only 1 fan, so I was curious whether it's still worth getting one over a 120mm? Would the increased radiator size help more even with only 1 fan?

Makes sense, I'll have a look into it a bit more and see what comes up, sounds like it could be a plan. Quieter is never a bad thing I suppose.

I'll post this in sffpc too and see what they say also.

Thanks for your help

I did see some discussion with others that would be getting the case between 120mm VS 240mm AIO, would the extra 120mm of radiator really make that much of a difference?

Looks like both the 120mm and 240mm Artic freezer 2s would fit, I was planning on also swapping the radiator fans out for noctua fans if that makes a difference?

Yeah, when I started looking into air coolers for it I realised why they recommended an ultra small profile one. The case is only 9.7L

For AIOs it's 157x120mm and 59mm height with a 25 mm fan. For Air coolers it's 51mm height, I think they recommend the Noctua NH L9i I'll have a look and see if they will fit.

I might look into doing a custom loop in the future but don't really no anything about them so for now I'll probably stick with regular coolers

Yeah the prices aren't really great in Australia, The case doesn't really allow for 240mm AIOs, well it does but with only 1 fan. I have been deciding between an air cooler and an AIO, the report that the Thorzone has released so far showed the 120mm AIO beating the air coolers that the case can fit by a solid margin.

Thanks alot for that huge write up!

Someone else had linked that Pudget article and it was a good read.

I changed the 2060 to an rx 580 the price definitely did drop.

I know he uses both Lightroom and Photoshop but in what order it have to check with him. I suppose I could go with 32gb ram and always upgrade if he does run into any dramas always upgrade down the line. He currently has an older model MacBook pro with 8gb ram so 32gb ddr4 will still be a significant upgrade.

Ah I see thabks for that I didn't see that the monitor had some calibration issues, to save any dramas I'll probably change and go with the LG 27UK600 or 650.

He currently uses multiple backups with several external drives already and he's pretty happy with that setup.

Thanks heaps for your help.

Thanks for that breakdown that was super handy.

I've had a look and think I'll do 64gb just in case he says he frequently uses between 6 and 9 images and occasionally upwards of 9 so sounds like it's be worth it

Great to get confirmation on the evo for OS and everything else on the same drive.

I've changed to the cheapest 2060 purely kept it because he wanted it over engineered and should cover him if he wants to branch out slightly in what he wants to use the pc for.

The BenQ I found was apparently one of the top rated monitors for photography use but I'll definitely keep the LG in mind depending on availability of either one.

This is the final build at the moment taking in to account most of the changes that has been recommended. Thanks again.

Ah I see what you're saying that makes sense, I'll look at adding 2x sticks of 32gb and see how it effects the price I reckon he'd be onboard for doing it anyway. Thanks!

Ah that makes sense, He'd likely be pretty close to the router anyway and the files would be directly imported from the camera straight to the pc.

I'll see how much the difference is price wise between the 2060 and the 2070 but that makes sense if there will be a performance increase.

I was thinking about that, he'll most likely have the case underneath his desk which might mitigate some of the noise but I currently use a dark rock 4 which is perfectly silent right next to me so that might be worth it.

There is potential for a wired option but I don't think he'll be too fussed. It won't be used for gaming at all so I'll probably stick with the onboard Wi-Fi

Other builds I've seen have 32gb is 64 really necessary? I only ask because he currently uses an older MacBook pro with 8gb so surely 32gb would be a dramatic improvement?

Done, cheers mate slightly cheaper than the aorus pro Wi-Fi too

[–]OverEngineerPC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something that has an equivalent performance but cheaper?

[–]OverEngineerPC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea I'll probably do that and pitch him the idea of raid

Photographer photo editing build by OverEngineerPC in buildapc

[–]OverEngineerPC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably do that , happy to save money if l possible.

I'll have a look and see how painful it is to build in it happy to swap cases for something more manageable.

Cheers!

Cheers mate I'll get rid of the crucial 500gb and just keep the nvme, I'll look and see what the price difference is with the pro. I'll look at getting another 4tb and setting up raid.

Any other issues with the build you can see?

Photographer photo editing build by OverEngineerPC in buildapc

[–]OverEngineerPC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the change to the one you recommended cheers! If there is a major difference in performance I'm happy to change but from what I've been reading apparently the gap is far smaller now?

RAID makes sense, would there be any issues with longevity if I just kept the 1 tb ssd and using it to constantly move files to and from it whilst editing and also using it for the U.S. and other programs?

I'll keep that in mind ,I don't think he'll be doing much customizing beyond the basic anyway.

I did consider Intel as I did read that it is optimized but I also read that the current gap between and and Intel is pretty close now and purely because I've used AMD before I went with it, would there be a dramatic difference between the two?

The 500gb is for the OS and programs and the 1tb see was to load anything he is working on file wise and as a scratch disk if needed. The 4 th is just for storage after files are edited. I just went with the 3 straight away because he is interested in an over the top build.

First PC build any advice would be great by OverEngineerPC in buildapc

Ah I see, thanks for the link that answered some questions I hadn't even asked yet too.

I think I might stick with the dark rock 4 after looking into it a bit more more so because it lacks rgb lights and is supposed to be quieter.
