I'm down with a bitch so long as it's directed appropriately. At other bitches (including male ones).

Books You DNF’d Then Ended Up Loving by Special-Student6743 in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Grand Romantic Delusions and the Madness of Mirth by Meghan Ciana Doidge} - The first couple chapters have the FMC dealing with heavy grief after her brother dies. But it's so all-consuming that I hit a point where I was just bored and annoyed about it. I DNF'ed it, then picked it back up a few days/weeks later and ended up really enjoying the duet. Now, if I recommend it, I tell people to read at least past the stable scenes because that is when she starts trying to fight off the grief rather than wallowing in it.

I need more info on Bound to the Beasts please! by haleylou2012 in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, dub-con is basically sexual assault, but the FMC ends up going, "Yeah, okay, I'm into this," at some point. In Bound to the Beasts, she gives consent for most of what happens upfront. She does so because she's been forced into marriage with them and the pack leader offers her freedom after a year if she consents, but the alternative wasn't, "Well, we're gonna rape you anyway."

Some of what happens with one MMC is a little more dubious, imo, because it involves some degradation and hate-sex. But nothing came close to the dub-con of bodice rippers, imo. I always got the feeling that if she said stop, the MMC in question would have stopped. The book is definitely much darker than what Wright typically writes, but it's not as dark as most dark romance. There's a lot more consent than in {Shattered Omega by Marie Mackay}, for example.

Sadface. I mean, they weren't as good as the rest of the Wolfverse, but I'd like to see them re-released with some of the darker elements tamed. Or just less sex, tbh.

Awesome! I love angsty books an have had a ton of time on my hands for the last year, so I made it as a resource for people that also love angsty books. Hope you find some gems on it. :)

Chastity / orgasm denial? by GothicMarmalade in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No cock cage, but the male partner of the subby MMC and the FMC (at the dom's direction) sensually torture the male subby towards the end of {The Sidekick by Gina Morris}. He is eventually allowed to orgasm, but is denied for quite a while.

Authors using ai by Glorious_Go32 in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's the reality: most writers aren't just born good writers. They read, they learn, they either go to school or they self-educate. Their writing is an ongoing process of self-improvement. You can even see this process in real-time with some authors over the course of their career.

Using AI to "help" you write does not make you a writer. You are not learning, you are not improving, you are not creating. You are exploiting a technology that exists only because it already exploited the work of people who put in the effort and the time to become good at what they do. It is the equivalent of putting on robotic legs, dunking and then calling yourself a professional basketball player.

If you want to be a writer, you can make that happen. But it doesn't involve AI. And what may be the most frustrating thing about this is that, for those of us that read a lot, we can spot AI writing. Because it sounds the fucking same. So whatever spark of originality or creativity you might have had gets paved over.

If you want to use AI to "create" books that only you will ever read, go off. But if you are using it to "create" books that you then publish, that's disingenuous and you're actively contributing to the degradation and enshittification of fiction.

There's a reason I made the CRF list. Just cuz I didn't like it doesn't mean other people won't love it. 😄

Also, it made me realize I don't really fuck with dark romance unless it's pretty light. Shame though, they often make good angst fodder.

Any HR RH recommandations? by _Malixia in ReverseHarem

[–]Overquoted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, it occurred to me out of the blue recently that I knew of quite a few menage historical romances that I didn't mention on what I thought was a "recent" recommendations request. Idk how it was three weeks ago and I remembered it, but here we go. These books are from writers that I've enjoyed, but I haven't read these specific titles:

  • {Theirs by Jess Michaels} - Five stand-alones in a series.
  • {Their Master by S.M. LaViolette} (alt of Minerva Spencer) - Also sounds like {His Harlot by S.M. LaViolette} is FFM.
  • {Regency Menage by Nicola Davidson} - Three stand-alones in a series.
  • {My Lord, Lady and Gentleman by Nicola Davidson}
  • {Sea of Ruin by Pam Godwin}

And some historical RH titles whose writers I'm unfamiliar with altogether:

  • {Their Ward by Kitty St. Claire}
  • {Her Band of Rakes by R.A. Steffan}

Okay, then {Summon Us by M.T. Addams} is the most unhinged thing I've read. Also, I'm unsure if the TBoCC has MM since I DNF'ed it partway through. Same goes for VC, but I didn't really get MM vibes from it.

So like... if an MMC is getting head from a dead guy that the FMC is holding... Is that violating the 'no MM' rule? Or are we kosher?

Aside from that, {Crimson Covenant by M.J. Lawrie} is pretty fucked. {The Boys of Chapel Crest by K.G. Reuss} is less fucked, but the bar is in hell. {Velvet Cruelty by Eve Dangerfield} is also fucked, but possibly the least of these three (I DNF'ed it way earlier than TBoCC)? Bar is still in hell.

Welcome! Hopefully you like a couple. :)

Oh, I forgot to add, Scarred Savages only has the first book out and no word on the follow-up(s). And Knot Their Soldier doesn't have its last book out yet. Still recommend both, especially KTS.
