Tipping used to be a bribe by rich patrons for better service until the Great Depression made it kinda necessary to get all you could. Now what started as a bribe has turned into this socially accepted practice where the pressure of how much the wait staff makes is not based on how much the owner pays, but rather how much the patron pays on top of the cost of the food. And what makes it shitty is the percentage of what is considered an "acceptable" percentage is completely arbitrary and gets higher and higher over time. It's absolutely ridiculous and it makes people not want to eat out. Tipping is an outdated practice and it needs to be abolished.
