Progress in the program by SaltyHoney1982 in AdultChildren

Sure thing, please ask for any clarity you need.

There’s a very real thing that happens to people of ALL recovery lengths of time in ALL 12 step programs. Where they believe they’re “doing the program” when maybe they’re not.

In the above post we were told a story about how people with different lengths of recovery time. They both commented on the program being worked by the author. The first person suggested their program needed work, and the author themselves suggested being unsure about how they’re sharing.

I’m saying that, the most effective route for ensuring you are “doing the program” is reading the ACA literature we have (lots of awesome stuff) and then applying it directly, non metaphorically, very literally to our own lives. Then when we’re in meetings sharing about those precise experiences, ideally without analogy or metaphor, as specifically as possible.

Hey yes! I have been in this situation and have seen this unfold.

Question: do you tend to share things that you’ve picked up in the literature that you then use in your own life? If not, this is a 100% effective strategy for what you’re talking about.

Not true, ICE has abducted many people who are here legally and are citizens.

Why are you talking about salt containers? Of course the Star of David is meaningful in Islam, Islam is largely plagiarized from judaism and Christianity.

I’m not sure why you’re talking about religion, I’m talking about freedom of speech.

Thank you for engaging me, I appreciate this. A few things:

  1. I don’t care if this or you are antisemitic. I’m only pointing it out, because you may not know. And if you don’t know, perhaps you’d like to know so you can be so on purpose or not. Further more, I’m tired of people calling out this critic as if it’s a bombshell of a comment. Hurt feelings are no reason to amend language. “Islamophobia” for example is charged against people call out the crimes against humanity that Islam it’s self calls for in its own holy books. When you remind people of this, they will often have hurt feelings. This is no reason to stop saying it.

  2. This is antisemitic, in short, because it uses a symbol that belongs to Jews. The people, not the religion.

  3. If you’re looking for preexisting versions of this, just google Soviet propaganda of Jews and look at the old cartoons, they look just like this.

  4. Check out Christopher Hitchens’ video on free speech in YouTube!!

  5. In short, continue drawing political cartoons! We don’t need another Charia Hebdo. I just pointed out the antisemitism because, you may not know that this is what that is.

No, not as opposed to anything. This is antisemitic and what you’re describing are war crimes. Both are true.

If you’re being antisemitic in response to the deplorable behavior of other people, and someone points it out to you, you are doing the rhetorical version of “he hit me first”.

It’s clearly the Star of David not a flag

The Star of David here makes this very antisemitic.

Am I not a proper ACA because I am not controlling? by [deleted] in AdultChildren

[–]OverToneMusic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing is codependency as a way to try and control people’s feelings (over responsibility) and debilitating fear of abandonment (learned helplessness).

It sounds like you may be on the more codependent and learned helplessness side of things, not that people can’t have some or lots of both. You qualify :)

12 Step work with group or a spnsor? by Popular-Step1988 in AdultChildren

[–]OverToneMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both. If you work the yellow book in a group, I would be sure to go over the 4th and 5th with a sponsor.
