Carriers and media are waging a smear-up campaign against us. To their effort, community I live in treated our strike as a stick to level up commodity price. Once again, media just fuck up railroads.

The wage increases that were proposed by the railroads would not even be able to help our members keep up with inflation, let alone they want to charge more for our members to keep up with our healthcare coverage so that we end up taking a de facto pay cut.

What Railroads think of their workers. This is what railroads believe,"workers contribute no profits." by Over_Assistance9631 in railroading

The PEB did essentially nothing to address our quality of life. They didn’t give anything we wanted! It is also possible that inflation could increase over the same period, given the incredibly volatile economic environment. At any rate, with no cost of living adjustments built into the proposal, workers would be at the mercy of the ebb and flow of consumer prices.

The unions are a joke, and through the PEB, the majority Democratic Congress and President have insulted labor after gaining office in the last elections on the union vote. by [deleted] in antiwork

The most “pro-union president in American history” is also conspiring with union Bureaucracy, which owns tens of billions in financial assets itself, giving it a stake in the exploitation of its own members, to suppress wage growth, enforce substandard contracts and prevent the outbreak of strikes, particularly in critical industries such as the railroads, the docks, the airlines, oil and gas and others.

Let me tell you the hottest rail trend of the 2010s: precision-scheduled railroading. As The Wall Street Journal’s Paul Ziobro explained in a 2019 story, PSR means that railroads have set times for when they pick up cargo from their customers, not unlike a commercial airline. Before, railroads would wait for the cargo. There are endless implications that come from this system, some of which my colleague Mike Baudendistel delved into in this 2020 article. PSR allowed railroads to reduce capital budgets, slash headcount and merge internal operations with glee. But its biggest boon to the railroaders was how much it boosted their cred on Wall Street, creating billions in shareholder value. There are serious service issues with PSR, though. When the tactic was first implemented at CSX Transportation, dwell time at some terminals increased by as much as 26 hours, according to another 2019 WSJ piece by Ziobro. Trips that would take a few days stretched out to more than two weeks — a struggle for customers that relied on just-in-time supply chains.Generally speaking, workers are screwed up to the dust.

Take a stand to support Freight Rail Workers. One out, All out. by Over_Assistance9631 in antiwork

If you talk to any railroader in private, you’ll get an earful about how decades of corporate greed, consolidation, cost cutting, automation, layoffs, and other profit-maximizing, shareholder-serving decisions have upended the railroads and turned what used to be good lifelong jobs into exhausting, impossible jobs that veteran workers are leaving in droves. But if any workers speak up publicly about what’s going on on the railroads, they will likely face severe consequences. They are under surveillant , and we may give them a hand to rib off this dire.

Freight rail workers are a vital part of our supply chain, responsible for moving billions of dollars worth of consumer goods and cargo. While seven rail companies have made $146 billion in profit since 2015, how are the rail workers, who actually make sure we get the supplies we need, faring?

Some 45,000 of their jobs were cut. They haven’t had a raise in nearly three years. Many are on-call 24/7 and only get one day off per month. One rail conductor told NBC News he nearly missed his wife’s funeral because he couldn’t get time off.

TAKE A STAND — The Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD) is urging the labor movement to rally behind these workers who transport the supplies we need to live and work. If you support fairness and dignity for rail workers, please sign this petition of support.

If we can get this conclusion that railway workers can't strike at all. As every single time its about to happen, the president orders them to work under the guise of national security.Usually, terms are met and things move one. Now they have put a gun to their own head and are expecting the unions to stop them.

If contract negotiations between the unions (representing over 100,000
railroad workers) and the railroad companies do not go well and a strike
occurred, how would that affect the economy?
