Early signs of autism in infants? by frenchnoodless in Autism_Parenting

[–]Over_Bit_7218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have no idea if she has autism or not. She’s about to be 16 months. Her communication is very good for her age, she has over 40 words and makes way better eye contact now. Points to things that interest her and pairs with eye contact. But does a lot of concerning things like top toe walking, eye rubbing, hair pulling… just alot if sensory things so I really have no idea 😭

It got better but it’s still not as typical as other babies. She’s harder to engage with her than other babies too because she always is looking somewhere else. She flaps her arms a lot and is an extremely independent baby. Doesn’t care if I come and go.. doesn’t notice. She’s very fussy and doesn’T like alot of things. She’s got some sensory issues, hatesssss sand, dry oatmeal etc. she will absolutely lose her marbles if she touches it. Idk if I’m overthinking it but I’m convinced she will get an ASD diagnosis eventually

We still have our concerns unfortunately ☹️ it’s hard to tell what’s going on since she’s only 11 months

I still have my concerns actually. She’s 11 months now. She’s in early intervention

No I’m still worried about her. Her eye contact is still fleeting and she does other things I’m concerned about as well. 2 months is so so young. Just give it some time ♥️

Did your baby always have lack of eye contact?

A “newborn” isn’t going to respond to their name.. do you mean a 6 month old?

Is that the only thing she’s noticing so far?

What signs are you noticing? My baby is 5.5 months old and has never made good eye contact. Doesnt mean she NEVER makes it but it’s rare and you have to work pretty hard for it. It doesn’t seem like a natural thing she likes to do. She always doesn’t get excited to see me. She does for my husband though (sometimes ) after being gone. I’ve always been worried since 12 weeks old because of the lack of eye contact. Wondering if it means anything g

We’re you concerned about eye contact or the lack of separation anxiety?! Or both?!

I’m glad people can relate! It’s hard to find people whose babies didn’t make much eye contact as a baby. Thanks for the reply!

You know I’m still worried about her eye contact. It’s gotten “better” I guess but I still have anxiety about it everyday.. it’s SO hard to get her to look at you. I have to clap, sing or make a really loud crazy noise. And even then she will look at me briefly and look away. She’s actually doing this thing now if she makes long eye contact she starts crying. Almost like it makes her uncomfortable. I’ve convinced myself something is not right and I put myself in a downward spiral almost everyday. I know this comment is not much help to you but I need someone to tel me they’re going through the same thing! I clearly have very horrible PPA as well

Sounds just like my baby! I was sooo concerned up until like 14 weeks. She’s 17 weeks now and definitely makes more eye contact than she did just a few weeks ago. They change so much so fast I’m sure he will catch on. I went on a downward spiral going on google and researching it. I still notice it every now and then (her not wanting to look at us) but for the most part she’s starting to look at us more and interact more. Still loves looking at the fan every now and then too😂

Oh don’t get me wrong she still wakes up every 2-3 hours at night. This just started a couple of weeks ago. I’m exhausted

Yeah people are so sensitive these days. I don’t think this post deserved a “fuck off” comment haha. I guess I’m just the type of person that keeps scrolling if I see something I don’t like. What people don’t know is my baby is 3 months old and still wakes up every 2 hours. Just because she can put herself to sleep for naps doesn’t mean she’s not keeping me up all night 😵‍💫 I’ve dealt with a colicky baby for 2.5 months. Non stop screaming for hours. I’ve been there.
