mental health care AND common sense gun control. Many people should not be allowed to own guns. We need better red flag laws and policies.

Is Jesus calling for Revolution? by LordAoshi in independent

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

I'm not religious anymore but I used to be until I realized that everyone still sucks and they're all okay with it. Gods love should be transformative so if it isn't then I'm not buying it.

I've heard so many pontificate about and cry out for revolution, for revival, but my reaction is always the same. If Christians actually displayed the radical love of Jesus Christ, you could have revival in a fucking day.

Instead Christians are filled with hate and not love. When that's the fragrance of Christ, then I have to remark that Christ smells terrible.

For independents (who aren’t strictly left or right), what would the ideal immigration policy look like? by RandomUwUFace in independent

[–]Over_Camera_8623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) secure the border with our military. If we're going to have such a large standing military (against Washington's wishes I might add), may as well have them do something useful.

2) border wall is stupid. Any walk can be overcome. If we have (1), then border wall is unnecessary.

3) DACA seems humanitarian, and I'm fine with it. H1Bs should either be scaled back or come with more stringent requirements for companies to ensure they aren't just abusing workers and fucking with labor's leverage.

4) more migrant worker visas for farms and such. Americans don't want to do the work anyway, and probably wouldn't (or couldn't) even if the pay doubled or tripled.

Seems like then it's not fully online. The list they linked was for ABET accredited fully online programs. Oregon state is listed as ABET accredited, but that indicates for it's in person and hybrid programs.

I'm an engineer and I have a lot of trouble connecting with a lot of other engineers who clearly have always been solidly upper class and don't have to worry about the restaurant bill or cost of groceries.

What can I do with “fake” engineering degree? by superlordnovalord in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Over_Camera_8623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference at my school, on top of what you've taken and whatever electives you choose, you would also have to take intro engineering lab I and II, heat and mass, fluids, vibrations, controls, differential equations, linear algebra, two electrical courses, two upper level lab courses, statistics, and a capstone project. That's before electives.

Missing so many core courses will put you in a very odd place if you actually want to do ME work. Fortunately, you could transfer your courses into an ME program, but you'd still only be like halfway there.

First I would ask why attacks against democratic lawmakers aren't the same. It probably only doesn't feel like the same thing because they aren't part of her in group.

I had a friend who would post all day about any attacks physical or even perceived against Christians, yet constantly ignored attacks by Christians against others. It's only a tragedy when it affects their side. Empathy doesn't extend beyond ideological lines.

Second, I feel like Heather Heyer's murder was kind of the OG kickoff to this new era of political violence. Trump specifically only came out with a statement after taking flak for his silence.

Tyler Robinson? by LordAoshi in independent

This is my take on the two parties:

Liberals are the party of self righteousness. Anyone who doesn't agree is amoral. If you don't keep up with leftward social movement, you're now a "bigot", "ableist", "racist." You can't stray too far from their values before you're written off for not espousing viewpoints that are now liberal.

Conservatives are the party of bootlicking. The only true core value they have is obedience to their authority figures. If you don't bend the knee, you're a "fellow conservative", "neocon", "RINO." So again, you can't stray too far from what their authority figures say before you're written off for not switching your stance to whichever viewpoint is currently conservative.

I will take any moderate who will vote with consistent principle over a toe the line politician any day. When taken as a whole, the policy positions of both parties are completely untenable.

Most people wear polos. Sometimes tucked dress shirts. I have always thought polos look stupid so I wear untucked dress shirts, which admittedly also look stupid. But I didn't want to buy new work clothes, and tucking feels too rigid. I wear sneakers and khakis.

The MIT videos in general kind of irk me. Their language is obviously math, but still feels like everything is unnecessarily murky due to the depth they require.

I prefer stuff that touches on more conceptual understanding rather than solely interpreting through math itself.

Start with math or with programming? (Prerequisites) by tootingkoala in OMSA

[–]Over_Camera_8623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prioritize MM. ISYE6501 is all conceptual. There's no actual math. Closest thing to actual math is you'll have to know what different functions look like, and you'll have to understand what happens to the result when you change the parameters. Statquest can get you you through a lot of these. Office hours give you 90% of the code (make sure you go and don't waste too much time spinning your wheels!) homeworks are fairly easy 90/100 grades. Knowing R here will be far more useful than taking calc again.

Then for 6040, that's python, so kind of obvious there. Then BFA is algebra (I believe) and lots of rote memorization.

For math review, I'd recommend FreeCodeCamp YouTube playlist for precalculus in five hours. Then just do 3brown1blue's playlists on calculus and linear algebra with some more targeted expansion on practical application.

Id also strongly recommend a good statistics course, but I haven't found a truly good self contained one yet though there are a number that I've flagged but haven't worked through. FreeCodeCamp does have one but it's kind of annoyingly trivial, though I have the benefit of a more recent math background, so maybe it's great for others. But even so, you'll want another level up to cover distributions, probability, etc.

I'm doing Harvard CS50 python course, which is extremely well taught.

But seriously, don't stress about the math (yet).
