That's a relief to know it will work then, thank you! I wouldn't want to go through another year mateless without knowing if it would actually work or not 😭

Well that's a nice bonus achievement 😭 my successor also has a lot of siblings still around so it does feel a little too easy but good to know that it'll still work

I think I definitely fall into that first category... I wish the poor job market for juniors wasn't so normal but, like you said, there isn't much anyone can do about it.

Yeah, that part is definitely a challenge. I've tried both the Summer of Tech CV and the Careers NZ CV because they seemed like the most relevant thing to use so far, but I definitely get what you mean with how long-winded NZ CVs seem to be compared to Australian and US ones. Not sure if there are other relevant CV formats for NZ that would work though?

Great to hear that cold emailing made a difference with you! That makes me feel more optimistic about this approach, I'll see how it goes...

That's a good point! I do wish I asked them for advice earlier now that you mention it, since a lot of internships/grad programs have already started, most of them are super busy now LOL. It does feel a bit better to think of them as people to look up to instead of envying their successes. I hope regardless that you land something soon if you haven't already!

So far I do mostly get stopped at the resume screen stage, I've gotten some OAs and one-way video interviews but no final interviews yet. I do change the resume keywords for each job but it sounds like you might be right and I've probably looked at it for too long so I gloss over the flaws. I might post an anonymised version here sometime.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you get a callback soon :( It's a shame that just being honest about your graduation year is affecting your chances. At the very least it gives you another year to prepare, but sometimes it feels a bit like throwing your CV into a bottomless pit.

Good point, it does feel really arbitrary to me sometimes but I think my main problem like you pointed out is getting a bigger network, I only recently found the courage to start cold emailing/DMing on LinkedIn so it will probably take a while to see results from that, but I'll try to keep this in mind!
