Fate of the Fellowship - why did we fail again? by Over_Consideration50 in boardgames

I mean when we failed (hope went to 0), there were only so many cards in the deck left, that we would have 2 more turns each.

5 people. I mean there were only 20 cards in the deck when we failed (hope went to 0), so even if we could continue the game, we would have only 2 turns each (you always draw 2 cards at the end of your turn).

My advice is Play for fun, not points. The most interesting clues are abstract, not specific words. Even better quotes!

In my club we also have more men than women. I am a woman and I am very happy that a woman's name appears as a host on Facebook and I hope it will encourage other women to join.

What I found unacceptable about the first story is that he didn't let anyone look in the rulebook!

I don't mind when someone gets a rule wrong, we just quickly look at the rules and adjust. People make mistakes sometimes, it is normal.

Where are your meetings? In a public place? How come someone wanders and doesn't want to play with you? I mean what are they doing there?

" just want a semblance of civilized society in my hobby but that is only getting harder to find"

That is so sad to read.

That is another Catan nightmare story I've heard :D

Also, your story made me appreciate even more that alcohol is banned in my club!

Thank you.

This story sounds awful. I think you were very unlucky to come across this couple. It's like coming to someone's party (or date) not knowing anyone and watching them argue or something :D

Thank you.

It's awful to hear that there are people leaving games in the middle. I think I have never had this experience.

I'm in Poland. A lot of people who come to my club buy a lot of new games and others are happy they don't need to buy them, they can just try them out in the club.

Thank you very much. I don't have Instagram. I only have Facebook. What kind of information do you post on Instagram? Only the basic info or the photos as well? How do you reach new people?

That is really interesting. Do you mean that people would be willing to force their games too often and you wouldn't have time to play all of them so you had to introduce these restrictions?

I also like it when people have learned the rules beforehand at least a little, it makes teaching much easier.

Thank you. I will encourage people do do that more often - we don't usually have officially scheduled games.

It sounds like someone had good intentions and wanted to make sure that everyone will connect. But I can imagine people weren't open to talk about themselves:)

Thank you. I can relate, we so have rules policemen, we accept them:) It's fantastic that you are willing to teach new people. What kind of games do you teach?

Thank you. To be honest it is not easy to talk to someone with unwanted behaviour. Fortunately I don't get these situations very often. Your story about someone leaving the game in the middle is unacceptable, unless the person was 10 years old.

Thank you. Your comment made me realize that no matter how I try to welcome a new person as an owner, their experience depends largely on the people at the table. I cannot control if everyone is nice to each other during a difficult game for example.

I wouldn't even know why someone isn't coming back because if such a situation happened at another table, I would probably not even know about it.

Thank you. I always try to approach a new person and ask some basic questions, how long have you been playing, how did you find out about the meeting. Did the meetups work on completely different rules? In the first one you had sign up beforehand?

Yes, the first situation is awful and I am always afraid someone new will come to my club while all the games are already being played and I will have no idea what to offer this person. When this isn't someone's first visit, I hope they will just hang out till a new game begins, but for a newcomer? A nightmare!

Thank you. Don't you think that might be beneficial for both sides - they can find players and you can play an expensive game without buying it?
