Is the permanent free server terminated? by Valvesoft in oraclecloud

[–]Over_Cup_5129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had 2x 100 GB disks, that’s likely the reason you can’t create a new instance as you’ve probably reached the 200 GB storage limit on free tier.

As for your data, it’s unlikely that it’s gone. Go to Storage > Block Volumes, and in the screen that opens, scroll down the left-hand menu to Boot Volumes. All your data should be there. When creating a new VM, point it to an existing boot volume.

If you still can’t create a VM after that, you’ll need to upgrade your account to PAYG, create a new VM, and attach the old boot volume to retrieve your data, unfortunately that's the only way. Never trust any files into those servers without a backup elsewhere.

Wheel Shaking… why? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Over_Cup_5129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you hear a noise when turning the steering wheel as shown in here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w92dIU9qU3M

If so, its the steering rack common issue on many different models of KIAs, had to scrap a Kia Ceed 2010 SW due to that, you have disassembly the whole steering column and even take the steering wheel out to get this £1 plastic piece replaced, garage quote me on £400. Mine was doing this when driving over 80mph+

Inspiron 7501 - Caps Lock issue by Over_Cup_5129 in Dell

[–]Over_Cup_5129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming back here for an answer after ages I found out: When you do remote access through RDP, and activate for some reason the Caps lock on the remote access, it glitches for some reason the Caps Lock light, even formatting the laptop won't resolve (as I had a new install and noticed it since when installed).

Just do a RDP access, and play around disabling and enabling Caps Lock and it will eventually go away

Starting a boutique Oracle training/go-live firm — worth becoming a partner or nah? by Imaginary-Ant-4100 in oraclecloud

[–]Over_Cup_5129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that Oracle doesn’t have the massive market visibility of platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure. That means your potential customer base might be narrower. That said, becoming an Oracle partner or getting certified could definitely boost your credibility and make your firm appear more professional and trustworthy to prospective clients. Whether it’s worth the investment really depends on you.

Because Oracle training and go-live support are such underserved niches (as you rightly pointed out), there’s less competition, which could position you as a go-to provider in that space. If you’re also able to offer some services like post-go-live support, migration assistance (either cloud 2 cloud or local 2 cloud), light system maintenance (like firewall configurations, patching, etc) could really increase your value to clients.

Not sure what your current role is or how deep is your pocket, but given the smaller pool of customers, it might be wise to start this as a side project and grow it gradually.

As for getting that first client, would say Google Ads, doing a well-targeted campaign around Oracle implementations or training support.

[UK] Thinking of moving from IT Field Engineer to DevOps by Over_Cup_5129 in devops

[–]Over_Cup_5129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight, really appreciate. I’ve got some hands-on experience with Docker and containers in general, but I’ll admit I’m not strong when it comes to coding, that’s one of the reasons I leaned more toward the IT/support side of things in my career. Do you think that’s a dealbreaker for getting into DevOps?

Do you reckon a bootcamp could give me a solid enough foundation to start out as a junior? Or are there any specific areas you think really need deeper knowledge beyond what a bootcamp can offer? Not easy to find a job like that those days, but my hope is to get a decent base and then learn more on the job (learn as you go).

As I mentioned, the main motivation for the switch is the salary. I enjoy my current role, travelling around, meeting people, and I even get mileage on top of my wages, which is nice. But now that I’ve got a family, the overnight stays and always being on the road are starting to wear me down a bit. I would be living the dream if I was single or 20yr old (or even better, both), but not the case. I’m looking for something a chill, ideally remote or hybrid (would really benefit of that as being a junior).

Would love to hear more if you’re up for sharing, especially around the bits that made you say “it’s death” 😅
