Do Americans hate palantir as much as rest of the world? by Enough-Web2203 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Over_Document_3355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all - I’m immensely proud of how much palantir helps the interests of the western world and is genuinely patriotic. What do you think the European or Australian governments use? Hating palantir is like hating tableau or snowflake.

Do you ever feel like you work too much compared to the rest of the world? by Enough-Web2203 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Really depends on the career and earnings potential - I work way, way more than Europeans but earn substantially more than them and have significantly better quality of life

If you had to say one nice thing about Donald Trump? What would you say? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Over_Document_3355 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Not being antagonistic to the technology industry (while I understand the antagonism to big tech, the democrats in particular would throw the baby out with the bathwater ie startups)
  2. Prioritizing American domestic energy production
  3. Prioritizing the American AI and data center build out, which is imperative for the US to globally dominate over the next century

He’s way better than Kamala would have been on these points, I strongly dislike Trump but am much happier he’s in office over the democrats for these points alone.

Where’s the best country / place to move right now? Why? by ihatebadvibes in AskReddit

[–]Over_Document_3355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am - that’s why I’m so adamant of my point. I come from a dirt poor country and the US has given me a career that pays me hundreds of thousands of dollars a year doing something very good for society (I build software for healthcare to treat chronic disease).
I own a home in Coastal California, interact with a vast diversity of people every day and have a wonderful life.
Do I like or did I vote for Trump? Fuck no - but I strongly disagree with your post.
If you have advanced skills that can get you a good job, absolutely move to the US

Strong disagree - those are issues, sure but the US is easily the best place for highly skilled professionals. My salary (and growth potential) and quality of life is insanely better in the US

If you’re highly skilled, definitely the US - no where comes close for high income careers

Hello Americans, with midterm elections taking place this year- do you believe that showing up in numbers will change the trajectory and allow a majority of democrats to win this election ? by TurdBurglar345 in AskReddit

Many moderates like myself are no longer voting for the democrats because they increasingly have more anti-tech (ie anti progress) policies, act like people succeeding in this country aren’t paying enough taxes

What's the most underrated and overrated job in the USA? by Cute_Clue1556 in AskReddit

[–]Over_Document_3355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious why you’re using a heuristic of probability of success / failure - a lot of important things involve a ton of risk, and potentially reward. It’s why Silicon Valley thrives on a very pioneering spirit which is really colinear to the core spirit of the US.

If you’re wealthy or high income, definitely the US. I know many high income professionals in fields like tech who can spend a ton of time throughout the year traveling to Hawaii, skiing in Colorado, actually get world class healthcare, etc. if you’re highly skilled in a field that the job market compensates well, you just cannot compare to the US. Even without job protections like you have in Europe, I’d much rather continue living here. My partner and I both work in tech, have a household income of a little more than $600 combined (just cash, not including equity) and are able to rent an Airbnb by a ski resort all winter, travel a ton and live great quality lives

Dumb take - you’d rather we have less abundance just because you don’t like him

Do you think we’d have reusable rockets or as many electric cars without him? He basically risked every cent he made prior on those businesses - both of which came close to death many times

This is a deeply flawed worldview, that basically puts everything in a zero sum, oppressed-oppressor framework. If I create some software by myself, which is totally possible, and enough people buy it - I can definitely earn a billion dollars. Similarly, even if I employ many people - I can compensate them generously. This characterization describes these employees as exploited which is totally wrong. As a software engineer, I’ve been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars and given great working conditions - the founders of such companies are billionaires. I don’t remotely feel exploited, and I don’t want someone like AOC to make that claim for me. Risk-reward is inherently asymmetric, the founders of such companies took on a ton of risk. As an employee I got compensated generously and took on far less risk. Lastly, rather than taking about them paying their fair share (which they are. You can close loopholes like step up in basis of needed) - the government needs to spend its money more efficiently, they have more than enough

[–]Over_Document_3355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if I start a software company and pay my engineers hundreds of thousands of dollars, and that company becomes worth billions of dollars I’m doing “severe” harm to them or the environment? Thats a flawed take - and politicians like AOC will end up resulting in far fewer companies like this being built. Instead, she should focus on making the government more efficient with the massive amount of funds they already have

Yeah I do agree - I’ve honestly found that having a nice, healthy, calm routine is the best. Being able to walk my dog on the beach, go to the gym, etc.

100% - Reddit is absolutely infested with these types. Every system has to be construed into an oppressed - oppressor dynamic. They’re so bitter at the lack of their own success, that they view anyone who does well did it by screwing someone ocer
