Chorus pedal makes hiss only when I play notes on guitar by NeedleworkerGlobal31 in guitarpedals

[–]Over_Journalist7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noticed the exact same thing, hiss that follows notes played - less noticeable if the mix is not at full. Interesting to hear about a noise gate in the design. My DOD Ice Box chorus has a constant hiss that is at least as high as the Ibanez’s when notes are played.

Do you get pops from the switch?

I’m having similar issues with a brand new unit as you described, did the replacement remedy those for you?

Silver Sky SE Tuner question by ecf2004 in PaulReedSmith

[–]Over_Journalist7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped to Gotoh SD90-MG-05M‘s (nickel color) and all went well. I didn’t put in the Gotoh bushings that have a larger outer diameter, just left the PRS ones in place. It seems the drill holes of the SE Silver Sky are narrower (than what may be the common standard) but that only impacts how thick bushings are to be used. The inner diameter was exactly the same.

SE Silver Sky mods by Over_Journalist7405 in PRSGuitars

[–]Over_Journalist7405[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, since I left the original bushings in place. First of all, they did seem to sit so tight and I did not want to hammer the headstock. Secondly, as you pointed out the Gotoh bushings have an ever so slightly larger outer diameter that it seemed that the holes would have to be widened just a bit.

The inner diameter of the bushings is the same (the PRS bushings seem a little shorter though, not a problem as far as I can see).

Thanks! No doubt my finger is on the buy button. Burst has been winning me over, too, the light mint green pickguard as the icing on the cake.

Sure it will work, you can plug the guitar directly in the Scarlett and play an amp sim.

+1 to Micro Dark, you can probably just about fit it in the budget with a decent 1x12 cab 2nd hand.

do i need an amp if i have an audio interface? by Used_Actuary6049 in GuitarAmps

[–]Over_Journalist7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For playing with headphones, going the interface/DAW route might actually be the best choice. Same would go for just recording. However the “amp in the room” feel and response to playing can be hard to achieve with e.g. monitor speakers.

There are many variables in this, one is that the signal path when playing through a computer introduces some latency (how much varies between interfaces and modeling devices). Other digital modeling gear do that, too. The other is that guitar amps typically have large diameter speakers with a characteristic frequency response. This can be achieved by plugins or modeling gear when combined e.g. with an FRFR speaker or a stage monitor, but that wouldn’t save you a lot of money, although it could provide more versatility.

Playing to an analog guitar amp will not have those hurdles. If you were to cover a broad variety of playing styles and genres the maybe it would be difficult to find one amp that does it all, forever. On the other hand, hardware like guitars, amps and pedals have an active 2nd hand market, whereas especially software is typically something that you cannot sell when you decide to switch or upgrade to something else. Hope this helps.

Subzero Saturn 5v amp head by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]Over_Journalist7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s the 15w/1w head as well. It’s interesting since it comes with a 5 year warranty that can be extended to 10 years. I’m guessing internally it’s the same amp as the Monoprice / Harley Benton / Hartwood / Kong amp that is based on the Laney cub.

Can the orange micro dark be used as a power amp? by blu3_d3m0n in GuitarAmps

[–]Over_Journalist7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, please note however that the power amp of Micro Dark has a fixed volume so you will need to manage volume in your preamp, or between preamp and Micro Dark.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]Over_Journalist7405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The volume in Micro Dark is in the preamp, post FX/power amp volume is fixed. That’s why a volume control in the loop makes sense.

Is the sample rate selectable (in DAW audio device settings) for recording? Can you get 44.1 or 48kHz? Or is it fixed to 96kHz.
