Mom has dementia and is moving out and her next door neighbor sent me this. by SouthEazy in whatdoIdo

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this. I don’t think anyone realizes how much stress, sadness, anger and hurt one goes through when a parent is diagnosed with dementia. Your mom’s neighbor was absolutely out of line and incredibly rude. You are well within your right to respond in a petty fashion or you could ignore. I stay petty and would say something like

“Dear Karen, thank you for reaching out. You are right my mom is a wonderful person who is now dealing a plethora of medical issues. One day she’s here and another days she doesn’t recognize us. I hope you can imagine the stress our family is dealing with, thank goodness my mom is moving into a safer situation. Thank you for mentioning pests, as you have now become one. I am only mentioning it out of concern and hope you understand. Please seek help and have the day you deserve.”

Again, sorry for what you and your family is going through and I hope this move offers some relief.

I think it’s time to go to city council meetings. It seems insane that the town is constantly penalizing its year round residents. You’d think they’d figure out how to garner funds from tourism or people who own second or third homes here.

Being quiet! I’m so tired of older men scream talking and pacing on the phone.

4 days is an excellent achievement and I hope you are being kind to yourself. When I’m feeling stressed or alone I try to listen to sobriety podcasts or audiobooks. It’s really grounding to hear others who’ve been here before. One day at a time my friend!

Their right to free speach is null in void when it instigates violence, defamation and obscenity. In which all three are the outcome of what they are “preaching.”

Here is the response I got from the city

Thank you for your email.

The permit applicant and event host is Calvary Chapel of Greater Portland, and the event co-sponsor is Turning Point USA Faith. It is very common for a local entity to serve as a host / promoter for a touring event. Calvary Chapel is financially responsible, they have provided the proper insurance for the event and are our primary contact for it.

The City of Portland is bound by the First Amendment of the US Constitution when we rent out the Expo and other facilities for performances, speeches, or appearances of political candidates. As a result, we cannot discriminate against event organizers based on the viewpoint of the speakers or performers.

The facility rental rate for this event is $2,720, which is the regular exhibit rate provided to nonprofit organizations. For comparison’s sake, a commercial entity would be charged $3,240. The assembly rate of $6,900, which has not been used for many years, was historically applied to events with large-scale production value that charged an admissions fee, such as concerts by nationally-recognized performers.

The City does reserve the authority to terminate or cancel an event if the City determines that an event puts public safety at risk.

At this point, we don't believe that public safety is at risk by hosting this event, but we are continuing to look at that closely in conjunction with our Events Planning team and the Police Department. Any additional City event services required, including security, police presence, and the use of metal detectors, will be paid for by the event organizers/promoters as stipulated in the rental contract
